PDP South West meeting ends in deadlock; Kashamu, Ogundipe others denied entry

‎The South-West Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stakeholders’ meeting organised ahead of the August 22, national Convention of the party was nearly marred with crisis on Monday in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
Leaders of the factional South-West PDP executives led by Hon. Makanjuola Ogundipe was denied entry at the meeting, which was held at the State Government Bouquet Hall.

The Senator representing Ogun East, Buruji Kashamu, who came from Lagos for the meeting was said to have left the venue immediately he was informed that Ogundipe and others were prevented from entering the meeting.

Also, the meeting which lasted for eight hours, was deadlocked as some leaders kicked against the zoning of the chairmanship position.

It was gathered that the factional PDP chairman of Osun State, Rotimi Adagunodo was allegedly assaulted.

Others prevented from entering the meeting included the former Ekiti State Deputy Governor, Mr. Abiodun Aluko, former Ekiti State Secretary to the State Government, Amb. Dare Babajide, Segun Adekoya, and others.

Ogundipe’s faction quickly left the venue as they got signal from Kashamu and reconvened at a hotel in Akure where they addressed reporters.

Ogundipe said the National Caretaker Committee led by Alhaji Ahmed Markafi should not accept whatever decisions taken by Governors Olusegun Mimiko and Ayodele Fayose’s group.

Ogundipe described the action of the converners of Akure meeting as executive rascality, saying his own executives were legally constituted.

His words “it is our opinion that these people must be brought to book, otherwise this kind of executive rascality cannot be allowed to stand in our party.

“We are talking of winning election in 2019. The PDP state chairman of Osun, Adagunodo was beaten and prevented from entering the meeting.

“In a situation I have been deprived of taking charge, I am hereby calling on our National Caretaker Chairman to ignore whatever decision they might have taken because that will not hold.

“What they have done today is a clear violation of our party constitution and absolute power corrupts absolutely.

“This party is a disciplined party, I am not going to allow this to continue in our party. This party cannot be run by shear impunity”.

Meanwhile, At Mimiko and Fayose’s meeting, the South West PDP chairman, Mr. Eddy Olafeso, who addressed journalists after the meeting said they zoned the National Chairmanship slot to Ogun and Lagos States.

But a former Sports Minister, Prof. Taoheed Adedoja, who is also an aspirant said he would still contest for the post at the Convention.

Adedoja said “the position of the national chairman of the party is a very important position irrespective of where it is zoned for in south west.

“I am still contesting the election for the position of national chairman and I know by the special grace of God, I will win. People are afraid to test themselves nationally; that is why they are thinking of zoning. I will test myself for the position of the national chairman.

“It is the whole states’ delegates that disagreed with the zone at the meeting in Akure and I am going ahead to contest”

Leaders at the meeting included two PDP National Chairmanship aspirants, Chief Bode George and former Minister of Sports Prof. Taoheed Adedoja.

Others were Ondo State Deputy Governor, Alhaji Lasisi Oluboyo, Ekiti deputy governor, Dr. Kolapo Olusola, Senator Telism Folarin, Iyiola Omisore, Erelu Olusola Obada, Ebenezer Babatope, Kola Ademujimi, among others.

Pastor Adeboye’s Advice on Marriage

Freeze of Cool Fm has decided to express his mind concerning pastor Adeboye’s advice on marriage.
According to Freeze,
This week, I got so many emails and DMs asking for my opinion on Pastor Adeoye’s message about marrying a woman who cant cook etc. This, being a spiritual issue cannot be tackled with my usual ‘fayose’ approach, as I needed to hear from God first.
There were four main issues raised and I will try my best to address all. I wasn’t in the service and I am relying on the emails and DMs as a point of reference. The only part of the message I agree 100% with, is that no one should marry a man or woman who can’t pray for 1 hour straight.
The bible instructs us in the book of 1st Thessalonians chapter 5 verse 17 to “pray without ceasing”. In as much as we like to operate under the assumption that we control our own lives, in my opinion, the greatest part of our lives is controlled by external forces. Let’s take the instance of former president Olusegun Obasanjo who was a free man in 1996, by 1997 he was imprisoned for treason, by 1998 he was released from prison after the sudden death of Abacha and by 1999 he was president of the federal Republic of Nigeria. If in 1996, Obasanjo had known he was going to be in prison the following year, he probably would have gone to sew prison uniform, awaiting his conviction. Also if in 1997, with a life sentence hanging around his neck, he had known that in a little over a year he would become president, he would have made adequate preparations, but guess what? Life happens. I remember having a chat over drinks with my boss Mr Moussalli, who told me that he used to stay in Nice, when Lebanon was being bombed because it was safe and calm. Who would ever have guessed that Nice itself was going to be be the scene of a gruesome terrorist attack about a month ago? So wisdom doesn’t guarantee safety and strength doesn’t guarantee bread. (Ecclesiastes 9:11) Even the strongest man and the richest man in the world put together cannot control a hurricane.
“When life happens during your race, you will need a sufficient amount of grace!”~FRZ
This Grace can only be received through ceaseless prayer!
Talking about marrying a woman that cannot cook is another kettle of fish entirely, as I do not see why this is a criteria for marriage in 2016. If your woman can’t cook you have many options which include teaching her, hiring a cook, cooking your own meals or eating out and each has its own distinct and enjoyable flavour. Imagine serving your woman a meal in bed on a Saturday morning, she would gladly retaliate with a favor ‘wink’.
About marrying a man that has a job I can’t disagree more, especially coming from a man of God who is supposed to preach faith and grace as against logic. With the present state of the Nigerian economy, in my own opinion, at least 10% percent of couples will experience job losses within one week of marriage, considering the way companies are laying off staff.
A friend of mine lost his job the 3rd day after his wedding, and another friend lost his job 2 days before his first son was born. So why place so much emphasis on having a job, when there is hardly any job security in Nigeria, and you could lose that job in a heartbeat! So the wife of my friend who lost his job 3 days after their wedding should file for a divorce?
Another thing I heard that Daddy allegedly said was that anyone who wanted sex everyday should come for deliverance. It’s much easier for a man in his 70s to preach this, and as I turned 40 this year it’s a bit easier for me to understand. However I would have walked out on anyone trying to preach this to me at 31 as it meant setting myself up for fornication since my woman would probably say “Daddy said it’s not food so its not everyday”
The bible is very clear on this, as it states in the book of 1st Corinthians chapter 7 verse 4, that “The wife does not have authority over her own body but yields it to her husband. In the same way, the husband doesn’t have authority over his own body but yields it to his wife”
Therefore, refusing your spouse sex is dangerous and is not supported by God, as it can lead to adultery which has more serious consequences than daily sex.
I hear that there are some tribes in Nigeria that if you marry from, and cannot satisfy daily, you dig the grave of that union with your own hands.
Everyone is physically different, therefore our needs for sex differ.
In my humble opinion, sexual compatibility is of a far greater relevance to a successful marriage than sexual frequency.
Therefore, my advice is; choose your spouse wisely, while in constant prayer, as being single is miles better than being in a bad marriage! ~FRZ

Five injured in Abuja as police breaks traffic rule

No fewer than five persons were seriously injured on Monday in an accident that occurred when a police bullion van driver broke traffic regulation.
A witness told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the accident occurred on Sani Abacha barracks road involving a police vehicle’s driver.
He said the driver of the police bullion van, “roforce” number NPF 2647D, Agada Daniel of the police FCT commands, allegedly drove against the traffic.
“The driver of the bullion van decided to take one way and with the rate of his speed, it rammed into an Abuja painted taxi marked Kaduna, DKA 601XA.
“As a result of the speed, the driver collided with the oncoming vehicle; another painted taxi driver,’’ he said.
He said four of the injured are staff of the Halogen security company in Area 3, FCT.
According to him, driving against the traffic has become norms for the police and the military, mostly on Maraba axis.
“It is so unfortunate that the law makers are the law breakers in this Country,’’
A leader of the NEMA team on rescue mission declined to answer question as he was busy evacuating the injured passengers.
All efforts by NAN to reach the force PRO proved abortive.
NAN called FCT police command spokesperson more than five times and even sent a voice and text message to him giving details but there was no response from him.

Inibehe Effiong: Arrest and detention of blogger Abusidiqu by EFCC is troubling

Information reaching the Coalition of Human Rights Defenders (COHRD) has it that a popular Nigerian blogger and political commentator, Mr Abubakar Sidiqu Usman, also known as Abusidiqu, was arrested on the early hours of Monday 8th August, 2016 by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) purportedly over a recent critical report he published against the Chairman of the Commission, Mr Ibrahim Magu.
We understand that a team of stern looking and heavily armed operatives of the Commission led by one Sambo M. Mangana stormed the private residence of the blogger in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja with a search warrant and whisked him away in a commando style after they had ransacked his house, without disclosing the reason for the search and arrest.

Though details of the arrest is yet to be made the public bythe EFCC, it is worrisome and extremely troubling that the commission will arrest a citizen of Nigeria in a manner reminiscent of the dark days of military dictatorship.
Without prejudice to any possible legal basis for the arrest, it is pertinent to state that the EFCC does not have powers under the extant laws, including the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (Establishment) Act 2004, to investigate, arrest, detain or prosecute any person for any alleged offence except in respect of economic and financial crimes.
Therefore, if it is a truism that the actions taken against the blogger is connected with a critical report he published against the Chairman of the Commission, the implication is that the EFCC has just dealt a fatal blow on the rule of law, democracy and human rights.
Whatever the allegations against Abubakar Usman may be, the Chairman of the commission should urgently clarify in person or through the Commission’s spokesman, the rationale for the arrest and detention of the blogger.
In the absence of any allegation of commission of financial or economic crime against the blogger, the EFCC should without delay, release him from custody. The EFCC is not above the law and cannot operate like a state within a state.
Sometimes in March 2016, Justice Yusuf Haliru of the FCT High Court, sitting in Jabi, Abuja, had this to say about the EFCC:
“The EFCC is a creation of the law. The court will not allow it to act as if it is above the law. It is remarkable to note that the motto of the EFCC is that nobody is above the law, yet they are acting as if they are above the law. The EFCC Act is not superior to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The respondents in this matter have not behaved as if we are in a civilised society. They have behaved as if we are in a military dictatorship where they arrest and release persons at will.”
If indeed the actions taken against the blogger relates to anything he may have published, the actions amount to a violation of the Code of Conduct for public officers. For clarity, Paragraph 9, Part 1 of the Fifth Schedule to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended) states thus:
“A public officer shall not do or direct to be done, in abuse of his office, any arbitrary act prejudicial to the rights of any other person knowingthat such act is unlawful or contrary to any government policy.”
As a public officer, the EFCC Chairman is bound to comply with the Code of Conduct under the Constitution. A violation of any provision of the Code of Conduct under the Constitution is not only morally reprehensible but criminal and culprits are liable to be prosecuted before the Code of Conduct Tribunal.
Nigerians are not ready to tolerate any brazen, irresponsible, reckless and arrogant attack on free speech. If Magu believes that a publication by the blogger against him is defamatory, the proper course of action is for him to seek redress in a court of law. The EFCC should not be used as a tool to achieve personal vendetta. Mugu should not allow ego and arbitrariness to erode public confidence in his anti-corruption strides.
Mr Abubakar Usman’s fundamental rights to dignity, personal liberty, fair hearing, private and family life, freedom of expression and freedom of movement are guaranteed by Sections 34, 35, 36, 37, 39 and 41 of the Constitution, respectively, and should be respected.
Thank you.

We Will Make Yorubaland A No Go Area For Militants - Fasheun, Gani Adams & Others Speak

In his reaction, Founder of Oodua Peoples Congress, OPC, Dr. Fedrick Fasheun said he believes no militant will dare the security of Lagos State. He also said he believes that Lagos State is not sleeping or napping over the security situation in the state.
According to him:
“We have waited patiently to confirm the suspicion, whether it is true that militants are building camps in some parts of Lagos and other South-West states. Whether it is true or not, I believe not many dare-devils will live to tell the story if any attempt is made on Lagos”

What others said below...
Gani Adams Speaks; We ‘ll make Yorubaland a no go area for militants

National Coordinator of the OPC, Otunba Gani Adams, has threatened to make Yorubaland a no-go area for militants to perpetuate their nefarious activities. Adams, who confirmed the setting up of camps by the militants in the Lagos and Ogun axis, said:

“I agree with the military that they have different camps but thank God that the military has risen to the task. Also, we as an organisation have decided to complement their efforts.
“Definitely, the militants have invaded the South West but those carrying out these acts are not from Delta or Bayelsa states but from Ondo State. It is a bad signal, I won’t deceive you but I can tell you that they have missed the post. They cannot go scot free because what they are doing in their states cannot be replicated here in the South West. They will retreat because we will not encourage it. There is no way they can hide in Yoruba land.

We have to thank the military for their aerial bombardment because their hideout is not one that can be easily located. The military bombardment has smoked them out”

It shows incompetence, inefficiency of our security agencies, Adebanjo Adebanjo speaks.
Chief Ayo Adebanjo said:
“How can they set up camps in Lagos and Ogun states? We have no relationship with militants. It shows the inefficiency and incompetence of our security agencies. Given what had been happening in the country, our security people should have been alert to prevent such camps from being set up.”

It’s an attempt to pit Yoruba against Ijaw — Odumakin

Mr Yinka Odumakin said
Quote
: “The setting up of camps in parts of Lagos and Ogun states by the militants is a strange dimension. Up till now, we see them as criminal elements. We call on the security agencies to deal with them as such. The security agencies should go after their camps and deal with them. “It is an attempt to pit the Yoruba against the Ijaw because the Ijaw have no cause to attack Yorubaland. We must avoid a situation where ethnic groups will resort to ethnic justice because any attempt to seek ethnic justice always leads to genocide. The security agencies should go after the criminals and deal with them.”

The CP has ordered all the Divisional Police Officers to be on their toes. “Our Special Intelligence Bureau officers are at various parts of the state to nip in the bud any mob attack. People should not fear harassment from anywhere. They should go about their business in a normal way; we are on top of the situation. Nothing is going to happen in those communities because policemen are on the ground,” the acting Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Command, ASP Ambibola Oyeyemi said
