Addressing reporters at the police headquarter, the State Commissioner of Police, Olushola Amore, said the late woman, a struggling widow, had engaged the suspects as labourers on her farm before she was later killed by them out of greed.

“After the harvesting and bagging the rice, it was too late for her to go. She employed one of them as guard and herself to sleep on the farm so that they will be able to move the 12 bags in the morning.

“These six people conspired and came in the night and hacked the woman to death and stole the bags of rice.

“For us in Kwara State, you cannot commit crime and escape as the long arms of the law will catch up with you,” the CP assured.

The exhibits recovered from the suspects include a golf car used in carrying the rice and the stick used in killing the woman.

                                  Apostle Akan Weeks

The embattled General Overseer of Reigners International Bible Church, Uyo Akwa Ibom State, Apostle Akan Weekshas called on Nigerians to stop crucifying him over the collapse of his church building that led to the deaths of many worshippers.

In a statement posted on the church’s website, Apostle Weeks who was supposed to be ordained as a Bishop on the day of the tragedy, added that the disaster was a clear battle between light and darkness as some forces wanted to bring down the kingdom of God.

The Apostle who spoke from his hospital bed after he also suffered a cut in his leg, however, urged Nigerians to pray for him and his church instead of pointing accusing fingers at him as it was not his fault that the building collapsed.

Also speaking on the incident during a phone-in program of a private radio station in Uyo, Apostle Weeks described the tragedy as unfortunate, saying that he was equally injured by the debris of the collapsed structure.

“Apostle Akan Weeks is my name. It is very unfortunate the incident that happened on Saturday during my bishopric enthronement; I call to say that God is still on the throne.

Only God knows best and nobody can question Him. “And I want to say that for the departed souls. And those who are injured, God will give them quick and speedy recovery. I want to tell every family that is in pain that our God is the healer.

Now, people are crucifying me but no one should crucify me. I am more interested in the souls of the people I have laboured for to bring to God over the years since my tender age."

" I am so sorry and sympathize with all the families. Please, we should rise and pray together, we will win the battle.

Let Christians in Akwa Ibom State know that this battle is not all about Akan Weeks and his church, it is the battle between the kingdom of darkness and the church in the land.

I was injured in the leg too. Please, this is not the time to crucify me; I’m still your brother. Reigners Church family, I’m still your pastor. The enthronement was canceled completely and I am not interested.

Please let us rise and pray. Once I am out of my hospital bed, I will come on air and we will pray together. I was also seriously injured. One of my legs was seriously damaged.”

Apostle Weeks has also called on people to stop the further circulation of the gory pictures of the unfortunate incident on social media as it is a constant reminder of what went wrong in the church.

As much as we are similar, Bella was not in the original photos I showed my surgeon. I did show him a photo in the second round at my pre-op appointment and he said I would end up looking even more like her."
In addition to her rhinoplasty and chin implant, Bunny has regular Botox every three months and lip and facial fillers twice per year. She also follows a healthy diet to maintain her slender Bella-like figure and plans to undergo further cosmetic work.

Bayelsa rejects Police Recruitment List due to Fraudulent Act

Image result for Nigeria Police March

The Bayelsa State Government has rejected the list of new police recruits recently approved by the federal government, describing the process as fraudulent.

It condemned in ‘strong and unequivocal terms’, the manner and mode of the recruitment exercise into the Nigeria Police Force and called for an immediate probe into the process.

A government statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr. Jonathan Obuebite, described the process as not only lopsided, but a fraud against the people of the state.

The statement noted that a situation where names of non-Bayelsans were used to fill positions meant for the people of the state, was not acceptable and totally against the principles of federal character and due process.

According to the government, while each local government area across the country was meant to produce 10 candidates, those of Bayelsa were filled with fictitious names of persons, who are not from the particular local government areas.

The government emphasised that Bayelsa, made up of eight local government areas was entitled to 80 candidates, but added that the lopsided manner in which the recruitment exercise was conducted, has further depleted the state’s quota.

It called on the ICPC, Police Service Commission and Federal Character Commissions, as well as other related agencies of government to urgently investigate, correct the anomaly and equally bring the perpetrators of the “fraud” to book.

It stressed that failure to correct the seeming imbalance and fraud against Bayelsa and the Ijaw ethnic nationality, would be seen as a deliberate move by the Nigerian system to short-change the state, its people and the entire Ijaw ethnic nationality.

NDLEA Commander at the airport, Ahmadu Garba, in a statement, gave the names of the suspects as a 42-year-old Unegbu Daniel Chukwu from Anambra State, 28-year-old Ettah Joseph from Cross Rivers State and a 31-year-old Wopara Bright from Rivers State.

According to Garba, ephedrine is an ingredient used in the production of methamphetamine. He said: “Officials of the NDLEA at the departure hall of MMIA detected a bag and during search it was found to contain substances that tested positive for ephedrine with a total weight of 83.390kgs.

“The parcels of ephedrine were concealed amidst artificial hair. Three suspects were apprehended and are being interrogated to determine their level of culpability. A bag containing 2.500kg of heroin was also abandoned at the arrival hall during the inward screening of passengers on an Ethiopian Airline flight from Nairobi, Kenya. Clearing & Forwarding Agent arrested with N4bn drug

A big boy, Daniel Unegbu, has been arrested in connection with 83.4 kilogrammes of drug that tested positive for ephedrine at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.

Unegbu was apprehended with two suspects – Joseph Ettah, 28, and Bright Wopara, 31 – by men of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, at the airport.

The drug, estimated at N4bn, was uncovered in artificial hair usually worn by ladies.

It was learnt that the drug, which was said to be the largest quantity of ephedrine seized at the MMIA so far, was to be exported to South Africa.

A bag of heroin smuggled from Nairobi, Kenya, and cannabis billed for trafficking to London, were also said to have been abandoned at the airport.

The NDLEA Commander at the MMIA, Ahmadu Garba, said a preliminary investigation showed that Unegbu helped the traffickers to conceal the drug.

He said, “Officials of the NDLEA at the departure hall detected a bag and during the search, it was found to contain substances that tested positive for ephedrine, with a total weight of 83.390kg. So far, three suspects apprehended are being interrogated to determine their level of culpability. The parcels of ephedrine were concealed in artificial hair.

“A preliminary investigation revealed that Unegbu, who works as a clearing agent, collected the luggage from his client and took it to the airport. Ettah and Wopara are the two luggage handlers who worked with him.”

He told Punch that “this end of the year counter-narcotic smuggling strategy had prevented attempt by a suspected drug trafficking syndicate to export 83.390kg of ephedrine hidden in female hair attachment to South Africa.

“Ephedrine is a precursor ingredient used in the production of methamphetamine. The estimated street value of the drug is about N4bn. NDLEA will continue to resist attempt by criminal syndicates to compromise security through strict law enforcement practice.

“Anti-narcotic agents have been placed on the alert and will remain vigilant to detect any act of sabotage. The case is under investigation and anyone found wanting shall be prosecuted in line with the NDLEA Act.”

Tenant Flees Home With Neighbours’ 10-Month-Old Son

An unemployed young man, John David, has left a couple –Abdulrahman Balogun and his wife, Bunmi – in sorrow after he allegedly abducted their 10-month-old boy.

David and the couple live in Okokwu community, Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Punch Metro learnt that David had pretended to be playing with the kid, Richards, on their premises last Sunday around 7pm and eventually fled with him.

It was gathered that Abdulrahman and Richards were set to leave for a church service that day, and Abdulrahman were waiting outside for Bunmi to dress up.

Abdulrahman, who spoke to our correspondent on the telephone on Monday, said he had gone inside to hasten up his wife as they were running late for the service.

“David came to play with him. I went inside to call my wife because we were almost late for the church programme. When I came outside, I could not find David and my son in the compound.

“We searched for them everywhere on the premises, but we couldn’t find them. I called his phone number and it indicated that it was switched off. He started living here five months ago,” he said.

The father, a teacher, explained that he subsequently reported the incident at the Mile 3 Police Station, adding that he discovered that he abductor had been bearing a fake name in the neighbourhood after he ran a check on his profile on Facebook.

“His name on Facebook is John Elvis David but we know him as Davies. He moved to this area five months ago. His three friends who lived with him have been arrested by the police.

“A woman called me yesterday (Sunday). She said she and David boarded the same bus in Warri around 4pm and that she saw him with my son. She said she was surfing the Internet after she arrived home when she read the post on Richard’s abduction on social media. She said she would have raised the alarm if she had read the post while she was on the bus.

“We got married October 2015. That is our first and only child. We are appealing to the public to assist in tracking down the abductor,” he added.

Richard’s mother, Bunmi, said, she was caught unawares by the incident as David was very generous to her son and looked innocuous.

She said, “I never had a cause to be suspicious of him (David). He was friendly with my son. They go out together and he buys things for him. So, I didn’t know he was this wicked.”
