NDLEA Destroys Hectares Of Cannabis Sativa In Plateau

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA has destroyed 5.93 hectares of Cannabis Sativa in Shendam Local Government Area of Plateau.

The NDLEA Commander in the state, Mrs Ngozi Madubuike said that the farm, located at Zampit village in Shimaka district of the area, was located after a tip off.
She told newsmen on Monday in Jos that the value of the destroyed Indian hemp stood at N670, 380.

She however mentioned that the operation was carried out in collaboration with soldiers of 332 Artillery Battalion, Shendam. She disclosed that eight persons, including a woman were arrested, while the farm was burnt down by the operatives. Five guns were also recovered from two of the suspects.

YBNL Concert 2.0 Breaks Attendance Record For African Concerts In The Uk

On Sunday, the 9th of October, 2016, YBNL Crew led by Olamide literarily shut down Eventim Hammersmith Apollo, a five thousand capacity venue for the YBNL Concert 2.0. The event was a huge success as fans filled up the venue despite the concert tickets being sold out even before the event commenced at about 6:30pm.

The concert saw thrilling performances from Adekunle Gold, Lil Kesh, Viktoh, Temmie and Olamide who came on stage at about 9:30pm. The excitement was infectious as Olamide performed his numerous hit singles that got fans singing along and screaming.


The hallmark of the event saw Olamide perform some of his monster singles including Eleda Mi and Melo Melo. It however became too rowdy as more fans filled up the venue entrance but were denied access  due to security challenges.

Several attempts  by the concert organizers to ensure  entry of the thousands of YBNL fans who came to witness Olamide's electrifying  final performance, including attempting to pay for added security cost was fruitless as the turn out strained heavily on the security procedures and the health and safety of the fans who had gained entry prior to the concert's kick off.

On the concert, Olamide expressed his sincere gratitude to the numerous fans who turned up for the concert.  He was however disappointed that many fans did not witness the apex of his performance but still felt humbled that people trooped out in their thousands despite being denied access. Notwithstanding the security challenges, the concert still remains  the most attended African concert by Nigerian artistes in the UK.

Lagos Police Officer Escorts Robbery Suspects To Sell Loot

                                           


The Lagos Police Command has arrested two members of a robbery gang for allegedly attacking a polythene producing company in Alibaba, in the Isashi area of the state, stealing a raw material evaluated at N6.4million.

The suspects are 42-year-old Moruf Afolabi and one Saheed Adeoti, a new worker of the company.

A policeman, identified as Tunde, aka Agbo, reportedly escorted a truck containing 220 bags of the stolen raw material to the Mangoro area of the state, where they were sold.

According to The Punch, the suspects were arrested sometime in September 2016, three weeks after they attacked the company, Alphabet Packaging Nigeria Limited.

It was learnt that the gang members had gone to the company around 7am on Sunday, August 14, and told a security guard at the gate that they were directed by the manager to collect the raw material.

The guard insisted that they called the manager on the phone so he could confirm the directive. When the robbers realised their ploy would not work, they reportedly resorted to force.

“One of the suspects pretended that he wanted to use the toilet on the premises. The guard allowed him in and the rest of them forcefully gained access into the company. They tied the guard with a rope, sealed his mouth and put him in a room while they looted the store where the raw material was. They stole 220 bags and packed them in a truck.

“The case was reported at the Isashi Police Division and was later transferred to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the state command in Ikeja. The information we gathered showed that one Tunde, whom one of the suspects identified as a policeman, escorted the truck to where the chemical was sold. But investigation revealed that the said policeman was not aware it was stolen,” a source said.

Afolabi, who hails from Abeokuta, Ogun State, told the police that he was invited for the operation by Adeoti, adding that he knew Tunde as a policeman in the Aboru area of the state.

He said, “Saheed (Adeoti) and I had earlier worked together at a nylon making company. I know Tunde at Aboru. He is a policeman and I have seen him in police uniform. On that day, Saheed called me on the phone and said I should meet him at Joju bus stop, Sango Ota. When I got there, he told me to follow him to steal Idorama nylon chemical, and I did.”

Adeoti, 25, a native of Ayetoro, Ogun State, said they sold the chemical to a businessman who had a shop at the Mangoro area of Lagos, adding that he got N1.2m from the proceeds.

“We took the stolen chemical to Mangoro and sold each bag for N24,000 to a man called Ibeh. He knew we stole the chemical. Maruf and I got N1.2m each and we gave the driver that drove the truck N40,000. This is my first time of doing this kind of business,” he said.

A police prosecutor, Inspector Benedict Aigbokhan, arraigned the duo before an Ikeja Magistrate’s Court on Friday on two counts of armed robbery.

The presiding magistrate, O. Olanipekun, did not take the plea of the defendants but ordered that the case file be forwarded to the Directorate of the Public Prosecutions for advice.

The case was adjourned till October 21, 2016, for legal advice.

Barely 48 hours after the Department of State Services, DSS, had taken 7 suspected corrupt judges into its custody, details of what led to their arrests and how they were picked up from their homes by operatives of the agency began to emerge.

Competent sources close to the operations disclosed that the DSS could no longer watch and allow corrupt judges use their positions to engage in sabotage, subversion and espionage latching on huge proceeds of corruption.



A source told Vanguard that unknown to most Nigerians, some of the judges had been collecting huge bribes to subvert the will of the people, using the proceeds to acquire choice property and build fat bank accounts without putting in enough efforts to do the job they were paid to do.

The source said that based on series of petitions from concerned Nigerians to checkmate the excesses of the corrupt judges, the DSS moved in and began a covert investigation, which finally led to the establishment of prima facie evidence against them. 

"As we speak now, we have incontrovertible evidence of brazen corruption against the seven judges in our custody and we are ready to charge them to court, even tomorrow. By our own analysis, the rot in the political scene – election rigging, inter and intra-party crises and election petition trial from tribunal to Supreme Court – gave rise to the deep corruption in the judiciary.

"In the economic sphere, Nigeria lost cases to foreign investors due to the collusion of judges with foreigners, leading to the loss of hundreds of billions of Naira by the country, among them, the Malabo Oil deal where the country lost over $2 billion.

“We have the mandate not only to pre-empt and prevent but also to take necessary actions to bring the culprits of economic and financial crimes to book. 

"That is why we are challenging those who think that our action is unconstitutional to take us to court since we cannot allow Nigeria’s security interest to be jeopardised. “Let it be known that anybody whose action can create hardship for the rest of Nigerians must be stopped by us before the crime is committed and there is no other agency that is as capable of doing that as the DSS,’’ the source said. 

It was learned that the DSS had access to the accounts of the detained judges and actually established that they had been taking bribes from many sources in the discharge of their duties but used the names and pictures of their wives, children and siblings to open such banks account, which were not known to most of those whose names appeared in the bank ledgers. 

"When we brought in most of the children, wives and relatives of the suspects based on the papers we got from the banks, they did not even have an idea that their names had been used by the judges to open such accounts. But you see under the Bank Verification Number, you must put in your passports, name, signature and others. 

"So, for some of the judges, who used fake names and their wives names to open the accounts into which they paid in the proceeds of crime, they foolishly appended their signatures or used their pictures, something that gave them out.

“From what we have found out, some of the suspects acted foolishly in committing the offence because they cannot prove that even if their children were to earn N1 million monthly since they were born till date, none of them can accumulate the amount of money we have traced to their accounts and the type of property they have. 

"Look, it may interest you to know that one of the two Supreme Court judges in our custody has a property worth N1.5 billion in one of the South-South states. If we may ask, where did he get the money to set up such project?

“As far as we are concerned, there is nothing unusual in arresting corrupt judges and taking them to court because it would be an offence against the nation to continue to turn a blind eye to mounting corruption in the judiciary."

The official also pointed out that another judge, who is being detained and questioned, disguised as a shopper in one of the supermarkets and ended up collecting bribes in Dollars from a ‘client’ only to be caught on CCTV camera.

Man, Woman Held With Crushed Human Heads Hidden In Bread (Photo)

The police have arrested two persons for unlawful possession of human heads. Jamiu Alabi, 24, and Yemi John, 32, were apprehended on Saturday night at Church Bus Stop, Ipaja. They were alleged to have concealed three human heads inside loaves of bread.

The suspects were said to have sandwiched the heads in the breads with inscribed names and amount on each.

While one of them had Danjumo N20,000 written on it, the others had Yusuf N70,000 and Alhaji Mumuni N10,000.

Police spokesperson Dolapo Badmos, a Superintendent (SP), said the case was under discreet investigation.

How Dare You Try To Cover Up For Corrupt Judges? – Falana Slams NBA Leadership

Respected human rights lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN), has criticised the Nigerian Bar Association for shielding corrupt judges despite having information about their "fraudulent" activities.

He said the failure of NBA to deal with corrupt officials in the judiciary is an embarrassment to the “incorruptible members of the bar”, saying it is responsible for the state of the country’s judiciary.

Falana said this while reacting to the raid on the homes of some judges and the arrest of four of them by the Department of State Services between Friday and Saturday.

He wondered why NBA “which has information on corrupt judges and lawyers in the country has continued to shield them to the embarrassment of incorruptible members of the bar and the bench.

“The few lawyers who have plucked up the courage to expose corrupt judges and lawyers have been stigmatised and treated like lepers by their colleagues.

“It is on record that when both the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Offences Commission and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission sent invitation letters to judges suspected of corruption they had rushed to the Federal High Court to obtain interlocutory injunctions to prevent their arrest, investigation and prosecution.”

He said members of the legal profession had themselves to blame for the harassment of judges by security forces as they had failed to take advantage of the relevant statutory disciplinary bodies to purge the bar and the bench of corrupt elements.

“It is on account of negligence on the part of the legal profession that the SSS which screens candidates before they are recommended by the National Judicial Council for appointment as judges has now engaged in the arrest of judges for alleged corruption and abuse of office,” he said.

Falana, however, said because the detained judges “are presumed innocent until the contrary is proved by the State, they should be admitted to bail in self recognisance.”

He urged the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Abubakar Malami, to ensure that the judges were immediately arraigned without delay.

He lamented the state of the legal profession, saying, “It is a matter of grave concern that the legal profession has allowed the denigration of the hallowed temple of justice because of the misconduct of a few corrupt judges.

“For several years, judges who committed grave criminal offences were not prosecuted but merely retired by the authorities on the recommendation of the National Judicial Council.

“Although the National Judicial Council recently recommended the dismissal and prosecution of a judge for extorting the sum of N197m from a litigant the authorities had paid lip service to the menace of judicial corruption in the country.”

Rivers CP To Be Sanctioned For Helping Governor Wike Stop Judge's Arrest

The Commissioner of Police, Rivers State Command, Mr. Francis Odesanya, is under fire for his role in the aborted arrest of a judge of the Federal High Court, Port Harcourt, last Saturday.

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike rushed to No. 35, Forces Avenue GRA official residence of the judge and prevented operatives of the Department of State Services from arresting the judge.

Wike, who was said to have had a confrontation with the DSS officials, was said to have been joined at the scene by the police commissioner.

A highly-placed source, who spoke on the saga, said

preliminary report had shown that CP Odesanya prevented the security agencies from carrying out a legitimate order.

Based on the report, he said the police authorities as well as the Police Service Commission would sanction the police boss.

The source stated, “The Rivers Commissioner of Police will be dealt with appropriately. It has been established that the DSS officials who were at the judge’s residence had with them duly signed search and arrest warrants.

“By stopping the security agents from doing their work, what he did was to obstruct justice. He stopped those people from carrying out a legitimate order. He will be sanctioned accordingly.”

The Public Relations Officer, Rivers State Command, Nnamdi Omoni, told journalists that policemen were only at the judge’s residence to ensure there was no breakdown of law and order.

It was also learnt by The Punch that about 15 judges across the country were under investigation.

It was gathered that the DSS was investigating the judges based on various petitions, which accused them of corruption.

A Federal Government official said the 15 judges included seven that were arrested last weekend

The DSS had, in what it called a sting operation, arrested Sylvester Ngwuta and Inyang Okoro, both of the Supreme Court; the suspended Presiding Justice of the Court of Appeal, Ilorin Division, Justice Mohammed Tsamiya; Justice Kabiru Auta of the Kano State High Court and Justice Adeniyi Ademola of the Federal High Court, Abuja.

Other arrested were a former Chief Judge of Enugu State, Justice I. A. Umezulike, and Muazu Pindiga of the Federal High Court, Gombe Division.

It was said that besides the judges, the DSS had invited three court registry staff across the country as part of the investigations into the alleged corruption in the judiciary.

“Currently, we are investigation 15 judges, including the seven that were arrested. Three court registry staff have been invited and quizzed. We have facts and figures,” the source stated.

Giving an insight into the allegation against some of the judges, he said that some of them received bribes to compromise judgments, to the detriment of Nigeria and Nigerians.

Armed Robbers On The Run Involved In A Crash... 4 dead plus an innocent man

Nemesis caught up with five robbery suspects on Sunday in Lagos, when their get-away car skidded off Eko Bridge by Iddo, while in flight, killing three of the suspects and one innocent bystander, a man who the car fell on.

It was gathered that two of the suspects sustained injuries and were taken to the hospital, while the dead bodies were deposited at a mortuary.

The incident was said to have occurred around 2.15pm during the rain.

General Manager of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, Adesina Tiamiyu, who confirmed the incident, said preliminary investigation revealed that the occupants in the car could be robbers as several dangerous weapons were recovered from the car.

He said, “the agency received a distress call regarding a lone accident at Iddo Bridge at 2.15p.m. On arrival at the scene of the incident, the Emergency Response Team, ERT, of the agency discovered a grey-coloured Hyundai ix 35 with number plates SMK 485 CM, which skidded off the Eko Bridge by Iddo Terminus and fell on a man, who died immediately.

“Three of the suspected robbers died immediately, one escaped with injuries, while the fifth was taken to the hospital by Lagos State Ambulance Service, LASAMBUS.

“The dead bodies, three suspected armed robbers and one other person identified as a mechanic named Nwamba, were handed over to State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit, SEHMU, and were subsequently taken to the mortuary, while the vehicle was towed to Denton Police Station, Ebute Meta, by the agency.”

Tiamiyu, who advised residents to always be security conscious at all times, said the matter had been handed over to Nigeria Police for proper investigation. 

Police Arrest Two Suspected Cultists For Alleged Murder Of 20 Persons (Photo)

The Police Zonal Intervention Squad (ZIS), Onikan, Lagos, have arrested two suspected cultists for alleged murder of over 20 persons.

Sheriff Afeeri and Wasiu Owoseeni were arrested at Agosi in Ifo, Ogun State, with dangerous weapons including an axe.

It was gathered that the duo confessed to be members of the Black Axe (Aiye), confraternity and participated in the various fight against Eiye cult group in Otta and Ifo.

According to the zonal spokesman, Muyiwa Adejobi, the suspects were apprehended while planning a meeting.


He said they confessed to have killed several people, including one Niyi alias Neyo, who was the Black Axe leader in Ifo.

Niyi was killed on Western City Street in Ifo last March by his members who wanted to overthrow him.

Adejobi said the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Zone II, Abdulmajid Ali, has directed that proper investigation be carried out so as to arrest other members of the group.

He said: “The AIG has vowed to get the zone rid of cultists and hoodlums, who have been terrorising innocent people in Lagos and Ogun States.

“Those arrested and others at large will be treated as murderers in as much as their actions have always been tailored to one killing or the other,” he said.
