Two Ladies Fight In Public Over Alleged Husband Snatching

The women, Antonio and Lisa, according to H-metro both women have been friends for long.
Speaking on the incident, Antonio said Lisa visits her house to cause violence and at some point she approached her while she was carrying her baby on her back and provoked her to fight.

“Lisa comes to my house to cause violence and in December last year, she came to my house and damaged my dishes. On December 25 last year, she came to my house again and pushed me when I wanted to go out and I did not retaliate. At one point she approached me and provoked me while I was carrying my baby on my back and I gave the baby to someone else and we started fighting,” she said.

Antonio confirmed that Lisa was her friend, but their friendship became sour when Lisa started dating my husband.

“We used to be friends and church-mates and sometimes she would come to my house to teach me verses, but the friendship turned sour when I found out that she was having an affair with my husband."

Lisa denied the accusations at the court.

“Her husband is my former boyfriend as we dated long back before he got married to Antonio. We fell in love in 2011 and we broke up in 2012 and in 2014, Antonio got married to the man in question. The problem with Antonio is that she is listening to rumours that are being spread by people that I am having an affair with her husband,” she said.

The presiding magistrate ordered Lisa to stay away from Antonio’s husband, and forget about the fact that they used to be lovers, since he's now married.

Another two men were arrested on suspicion of financially supporting the network and selling illegal drugs.
The group, which was headquartered in Padua in northern Italy, had accomplices in Nigeria, Libya and Sicily.

Italian police yesterday arrested four men accused of being the leaders of a human trafficking ring which smuggled people from Africa to Europe and forced women into the sex trade upon arrival in Italy.
Police said the network ran an “extremely lucrative” operation.
Telephone conversations between ring members and traffickers in Libya revealed large numbers of people hoping to be taken across the sea to Europe are being held captive near the Libyan capital Tripoli in appalling conditions.

“They are massed together to wait in captivity as price negotiations are completed and the payment is made (for the boat journey), during which time they are subjected to all types of abuse, from starvation to beatings to sexual assault,” the police said in a statement.

Police said it began investigating the suspects in June after a Nigerian girl, a minor, informed officers that she had been smuggled to Italy and upon arrival was held captive and forced into prostitution.

According to the singer, the protest, which will hold on February 5,
was never his creation but a call to action to speak up for his people.

2Baba made the clarification in a short statement he shared with his 1.8 million followers on Instagram.

He wrote;

"I am blessed to have a platform that allows me to reach a lot of people at a time. I believe this voice also comes with a responsibility to use it to speak up for my people. So, when I received the broadcasts that had been going round for some days calling for protests against the state of the country I posted it in a show of support.

My intention was never to take credit for the movement but rather amplify the voices of the organization credited with the widely circulated message.
To my colleagues that have joined their voices to this call, thank you for showing the Nigerian people they are not alone. I remain committed to contributing to the well being of my people in any little way I can. One love! #WeWillProtest."

MD Ontario Oil & Gas Jailed For Defrauding FG Of N754m In Oil Subsidy Transactions

Mrs Ada Ugo-Ngali, the Managing Director of Ontario Oil and Gas Ltd, was on Thursday sent to jail for 10 years for defrauding the Federal Government of N754 million in oil subsidy transactions.

Justice Lateefa Okunnu of an Ikeja High Court handed down the verdict, the first conviction since the massive oil subsidy fraud trial allegedly perpetuated by oil marketers began in 2012.

Walter Wagbatsoma, Ugo-Ngadi’s co-defendant and the Chairman of Ontario Oil and Gas Ltd, was absent in court for the judgment. He is currently being held in the United Kingdom on charges relating to a £12 million National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) Trust fraud.

Okunnu, in her judgment, sentenced Wagbatsoma and Ugo-Ngadi to a minimum of 10 years imprisonment for the six– count charge proffered against them by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

“For each of the counts of conspiracy to obtain money by false pretences, the defendants are sentenced to 10 years in prison.

“For the count of conspiracy to commit forgery, the defendants are sentenced to seven years in prison, for the offence of forgery, the defendants are sentenced to eight years in prison,” she said.

The judge noted that the total sentences passed were 69 years for each of the defendants, but that the sentences would run concurrently.

On Ontario Oil and Gas Ltd, Okunnu said:“I hereby give an order of restitution to Ontario Oil and Gas Ltd.

“The N754 million which was defrauded by the company should be returned to the Federal Government.”

After the sentence was pronounced, counsel to Ugo-Ngadi, Mr Y.A. Kadiri, made an attempt to complain to Justice Okunnu about the treatment given his client by the EFCC.

“For the record, the conduct of the prosecution has been unethical.

“The second defendant has been in hospital though her situation had improved slightly, the prosecution mounted tremendous pressure on the hospital management to discharge her,” he said.

Okunnu, however, refused to listen to the complaint of the defence. “I am now `functus officio’, if you have any complaint of ethical conduct, go to the appropriate authorities,” she ruled.

Ugo-Ngadi, who was on a wheelchair while the sentence was read, remained stoic and expressionless. She had earlier on Jan. 13 slumped in the dock when the sentence was about to be passed by Okunnu and was rushed to the Intensive Care Unit of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH).

Her family and well-wishers had escorted her to the court from the hospital.

As soon as the court rose, a white Kirikiri Female Prison van drove into the court’s premises and immediately conveyed her to the facility to serve her term.

Kidnappers Arrested While Attempting To Withdraw Millions

The Lagos Police Command has arrested suspected kidnappers, Chinobi Sabestine and Blessing Emma for allegedly abducting an eight-year-old boy.

It was learnt that the suspects were apprehended by policemen attached to the command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad in a bank in the Oyingbo area of the state as they were about withdrawing the ransom paid by the boy’s family into an account.

The police, however, did not give the name of the bank and the victim.

It was gathered that upon their arrest, they led the operatives to a hotel in the community, where the boy was held hostage in one of the rooms.

A police source told Punch that the manager of the hotel – 219 Hotel – was arrested while the boy had been reunited with his parents.

She said, “On January 20, at about 1.45am, a case of kidnap was reported to the command. It was reported that a boy of eight years old was kidnapped by unknown men. Police operatives deployed in Oyingbo arrested two suspected kidnappers.

“On Tuesday, intelligence report and investigation carried out by men of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad, traced one of the kidnappers to a bank in Oyingbo, where the suspect wanted to withdraw the ransom that was paid into his account. Sabestine was arrested along with Blessing, who accompanied him to the bank and suspected to be one of the kidnappers.

“An on-the-spot interrogation led police operatives to 129 Hotel at the Oyingbo area, where the victim was rescued. He was pale and shivering. He was immediately given medical attention and reunited with his parents.”

The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, said the hotel had been shut off, adding that efforts were ongoing to arrest other members of the gang.

US Bombs ISIS Camps In Libya,But Order Was From Obama

US B-2 bombers struck and destroyed two ISIS camps in Libya overnight, with initial estimates that over 80 militants were killed, US officials told CNN Thursday.

The strikes were on external actors who were actively "plotting attacks in Europe," Secretary of Defense Ash Carter told reporters.

The mission was approved several days ago by President Barack Obama and is expected to be the last short-notice military operation ordered by him, according to sources.

"The fighters training in these camps posed a security risk to Libya, to its neighbors, to our allies in Africa and Europe, and to the United States," Pentagon spokesman Peter Cook told reporters.

"While we are still evaluating the results of the strikes, the initial assessment indicates they were successful."

A US defense official said the militants were seen immediately beforehand carrying weapons, wearing tactical vests, holding mortars and standing in formation.

The Department of Defense showed reporters a rare video of surveillance footage of the ISIS fighters as they loaded what appeared to be shells and rocket-propelled grenades into pick-up trucks. A second video showing the camps being bombed was also shown.

The number killed was not released by the Pentagon, but the first estimate put the figure at over 80.

There were no women or children in the area, the official said.

Cook described the camps as being in a "very rural area."

See The Released Students & Staff Of Turkish College

A day after the release of its pupils and officials, Nigerian Turkish Int'l College (NTIC) yesterday spoke on the incident, saying it was a difficult time for the school and parents.

Mr Orhan Kertom, Managing Director NTIC in Isheri, Ogun State, said their joy knew no bounds when the victims were freed.

The victim were three pupils, three female, supervisors, a cook and a female teacher.

Kertim said their 11 days in captivity were “sleepless nights” for the school and management.

He spoke at the Oke-Mosan Governor’s Office in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital when Governor Ibikunle Amosun received him, the freed pupils and staff and parents.

They were presented to the governor by the Commissioner of Police in the State, Ahmed Iliyasu.

Kertim praised President Muhammadu Buhari, the security agencies and Amosun for their support that led to the victims’ safe return

“It was very difficult time for all of us; for 11 days, we had sleepless nights but we were full of hopes and prayed.

“I will like to thank the President Muhammadu Buhari; Governor Amosun, Inspector General of Police, Director General of Department of State Service, Chief of Army Staff and all national security agencies for their continuous effort and support.

“I also want to use this medium to talk about our parents because since that night we’ve always felt their presence next to us. They have shown great, tremendous solidarity and and thank God that it is all over. Thank you very much once again Your Excellency.”

CP Iliyasu said the miscreants surrendered to the superiority of the technically-driven team of the intelligence response system of the Inspector-General of Police.

He said some high profile suspects had been arrested.

CP Iliyasu said: “The Inspector-General of Police mandated me to make a very clear view; it’s an ongoing operation between us with the military and the state services and I’m assuring you sir that the history of this state and the standard of this state as a peaceful state, as a safe and secure state will definitely continue to be in the history of this nation.

“Nobody would come and destroy the peace of this state; this is not a place that kind of a thing would be orchestrated. We are resolute, we are committed to the safety and security of not only the citizens of this state but to our national duty.

“I hereby present to you the management of the school and the kidnapped victims for your reception sir. Thank you for all your support throughout this period. The huge support, the huge backbone that you have given our operation that was carried out led to the success of what we are seeing today.”

FAMILY REACT

An abducted pupil’s father, Steve Nwosu, Deputy MD of The Sun, hailed the security chiefs and all who worked for the safe rescue of the victims.

He said: “We were all in this together and we are very happy as parents that it has turned out the way it has turned out. Yes, even if anybody has any misgivings, the important thing is the result and we are very happy.

“The governor, we must thank you for everything you did, we got to know indirectly, we knew what was happening.

“As a media person, I understand one or two things that was happening. On behalf of the parents and the children, we want to say a big thank you to everybody that participated in bringing back these children and we say may none of you experience what we experienced.”
