Abuja rail can’t run faster than 90km/h because we don’t want to kill cows- Amaechi

Abuja rail can’t run faster than 90km/h because we don’t want to kill cows- Amaechi lailasnews
Nigeria’s Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi, who spoke at the 24th Nigerian Economic Summit organized by the Ministry of Budget & National Plannng at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja on Monday 22, October 2018, stated that the Abuja rail can’t run faster than 90km/h because the end game will be killing cows.
According to Rotimi Amaechi, his ministry does not want the trains killing cows that pass through the Abuja rail while seeking pastures to graze on. The transport Minister who maintained that Nigeria has more than enough to transport via rail before stating restrictions caused by cows, also highlighted other local problems being faced by the Nigerian railway system.

“The reason why we wat to go back to narrow gauge is because between Lagos and Kano, we have 30 million tonnes of cargo. Even if you do three rail lines, it cannot be enough. It took us 14 days to move coaches from Lagos to Abuja; everyday we go and ask, how far, they say we are near Ogun state…  14 days. But if it were rail, the same day, it will get to Abuja. The kind of construction we are doing is 120 kilometres per hour (Km/h), it is a speed train.
“We are doing 90km/h with Abuja to Kaduna. The reason we are doing 90km/h is because there are cows everywhere, and we don’t want to kill cows. The other day they tried 100 and they killed how many cows, and they said ‘you people should replace the cows you killed. From that day, I have said let us maintain the 90km/h; at 120km/h you get to Kaduna in one hour. You can work in Kaduna and live in Abuja. It was initially one, but now, we have done four locomotives with 14 coaches” he said

Those Who Feel They Have Another Country Are Free To Leave Nigeria –Buhari

He said he and others who did not have another country would rather stay back and salvage it together.

A statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, quoted the President as saying this while receiving the All Progressives Congress governorship aspirants and members of the party from the three senatorial zones of Kwara State at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

DSS Denies Aiding Nnamdi Kanu’s Escape

The Department of State Services (DSS) has denied report insinuating that some of its personnel aided the self-acclaimed leader of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, to escape from Nigeria, when operatives of security agencies, including the army invaded his family home in Umuahia, Abia State last year.

The whereabouts of Kanu had remained a mystery since the September 14, 2017 invasion of his family home, forcing his lawyer and sureties who guaranteed his bail to trade blame over his whereabouts even as some claimed he must have been killed during the attack.

However, following the sudden reappearance of Kanu in Israel, questions have been raised as to how he was able to escape from Nigeria, with report fingering some operatives of the DSS.

But reacting through its spokesperson, Peter Afunanya, the agency refuted the report, describing it as fake, malicious and intended to malign the DSS.

“The attention of the Department of State Services (DSS) has been drawn to the malicious report suggesting that five of its personnel allegedly aided Nnamdi Kanu, the self-acclaimed leader of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to escape his abode in Umuahia, Abia State on September 14, 2017.
“The Service wishes to state that the news is fake, mischievous and defamatory. It is nothing but a figment of the imagination of the originators. The public should, by now, have noted the antics of Kanu, IPOB and their collaborators whose stock in trade is to peddle unfounded rumours, and gossips aimed at subverting the government, its key agencies and officials.
“The DSS is aware that some unscrupulous elements are keen on exploiting the situation to constitute a nuisance to the freedoms of all persons as guaranteed in the Constitution and as well disrupt the forthcoming general elections. The DSS will not idly standby and watch these undesirable elements achieve their aims”, the statement read.

The Senator representing Kogi West in the National Assembly, Dino Melaye, on Monday described President Muhammadu Buhari as a failed president, who can’t govern Nigeria.

Dino said this while rubbishing the re-election bid of Buhari.

The Peoples Democratic Party chieftain stressed that Buhari destroyed a thriving economy that was handed over to him by the previous administration.
In a tweet, Melaye wrote: “APC’s sycophantic minions are congenitally pollyannaish. It is the reason why they’d want a second term for an incompetent man who destroyed a thriving economy that was handed over to him.

NAFDAC Confiscates 100 Cartons Of Expired Zero Coke In Katsina

The National Agency for Food Drug Administration Control (NAFDAC) in Katsina State, on Monday confiscated about 100 cartons of expired beverage drink at a super market in Katsina metropolis.

The state director of NAFDAC, Mr John Agada, made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Katsina.

“NAFDAC received a complaint from a consumer that a particular super market was selling expired zero coke.

“When we visited the super market, our officers found several cartons of Zero coke, which date of best use is June, 2018.

“By implication, it means that all the cartons of the zero coke are harmful and dangerous to the consumers and the owner of the super market was still in business selling the expired coke.

“NAFDAC officers immediately impounded the cartons of zero coke as the best day for drinking them had expired.” he said.

Agada called on members of the public in the State to always look at the expiring date of any bottle of soft drink before consumption.

He warned owners and operators of super markets and provision stores to always check purchased items to avoid selling expired products to unsuspecting members of the public.

“Anybody caught selling expired items will face the full wrath of the law,” he said,

Security guards rob boss over delay in salaries – Police

Security guards rob boss over delay in salaries – Police lailasnews 2
The police in Lagos have arrested two security guards, Kingsley Asuquo, 19, and Isaac Edet, 18, for allegedly robbing their employee, Prof Joseph Mbadugha, over delay in salaries.
According to a report by Punch Metro, Mbadugha, who hired the guards from Strongcity Security Services, was allegedly attacked while working at his office on Johnvic Igbanogo Street, in the Lekki Phase 1 area of Lagos State.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Chike Oti, in a statement on Monday, said the command mobilised operatives to rescue Mbadugha and arrest the suspects.
He added that the suspects, during interrogation, said they connived with others at large to rob the victim for not paying their salaries as and when due.
Oti said:
“The command had on Saturday, October 13, 2018, around 5.30pm, received information from a credible source that some bandits held one Joseph Mbadugha hostage in his office at JohnVic Igbanogo Street, Lekki Phase One, Lagos, and that the armed men wore Strongcity Security Services uniform.
“Based on the information, operatives from the Maroko Police Station and F-SARS Ikeja, jointly mobilised to the scene. On sighting the operatives, the hoodlums ran in different directions to avoid being arrested. But one of them, who gave his name as Isaac Edet, was nabbed at the scene.
“After interrogation, he led detectives to arrest his partner in crime, one Kingsley Asuquo. Interestingly, both suspects are workers of Strongcity Security Services. They claimed that the victim did not pay their salaries as and when due, hence they planned with others at large to rob and even kill him if necessary.
“They succeeded in dispossessing the victim of a bag containing a laptop, a cash sum of N40,000, three cheque booklets, one iPhone 6. All these items were recovered from the suspects in the course of investigation.”
Oti said the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, had directed the head of the command’s intelligence unit to fish out the fleeing members of the gang

Mavado accused of blasphemy after portraying himself as God

Mavado blasted for blasphemy after portraying himself as God lailasnews

Jamaican Dance Hall singer Mavado has been called by most of christian fans who accused him of blasphemy after the singer portrayed himself as God in a photo he posted on his social media timeline.
The Gully Gad, aka Mavado, posted a photo of himself on his Instagram profile on Sunday where he likens himself to a god.
Sources however mentioned that the image is the cover art for an upcoming project from the dancehall singer.
But it’s his Christian fans whom he angered the most with the photo.
“Mavado I am a huge fan but this pic right here don’t sit well with me as a God-fearing woman, please take it down, we don’t do the mockery thing around here,” one female fan wrote.
Another added:
“You wrong bro never you come pair yourself to God, only time will tell all of you who are defending this.”

While the Gully Gad has been getting a lot of flocking from some fans, a lot of his more hardened supporters were there to defend him.
“You guys should go get a life and leave Vado along, no where did he said he was Jesus, he just posted the image, and this is the image you guys think is God give me a break,” one fan wrote.
Some of Mavado’s celebrity friends like Skatta Burrell, a known atheist, defended the singer.
“Satan doesn’t exist. Answering to all our sins means taking responsibility for our own actions and stop blaming demons. We are responsible for ourselves and no man is gonna appear from the sky and save us.
Live your life and be good to each other, be respectful to nature and eat right. It’s simple, you don’t need a rule book to have good morals.
Folks in places on this earth are living quite peaceful and ok and they have never heard anything about any religion.”

How Lagos pepper seller allegedly died in police custody

How Lagos pepper seller allegedly died in police custody lailasnews 2
A Lagos pepper seller, Mrs Basirat Akinmushire, who was arrested by the police in Lagos over an alleged involvement with a robbery gang has died while in police custody and the family are calling for an investigation into her death.
They said the 54-year-old, who was arrested at a market on Isolo Housing Estate, Isolo, was hale and hearty until the police called to inform them that she had died.
According to Punch Metro, a rights group, Network for Police Reforms in Nigeria, had written the Police Service Commission on behalf of the family, alleging that the suspect was extra-judicially murdered.
A man, Olatunde Adetunji, had earlier been arrested by the police team in the Ikeja area for alleged robbery and cultism.
Adetunji, an alleged member of the Eiye Confraternity, was said to have claimed that Basirat, aka Area Mama, kept the gang’s weapons.
The 31-year-old allegedly said they usually paid her N5,000 after every successful operation.
The pepper seller, who was subsequently arrested, was said to have told the police that she was coerced into keeping the guns used by the gang.
She allegedly confessed to have transferred two guns belonging to the gang to one Junior, aka Jungle.
Basirat, according to a statement she allegedly made to the police, said the gang threatened to kill her if she leaked their secret.
The police had claimed that the woman, while leading detectives to Junior’s hideout, attempted to escape and fell into a ditch where she got injured.
The deceased’s younger brother, Babajide Lateef, while denying the allegation of arms keeping, said the mother of three was arrested on September 13.
He said:
“Since that Thursday that she was arrested, we started going to their office in Ikeja, but we were prevented from seeing her. This was ongoing when we read it in the newspapers that she was attempting to escape when she fell into a ditch.
“On Friday, September 28, the police called us and announced that she was dead. On October 2, we were taken to a morgue to see her corpse. We were told that it was when she was running away that she fell and she was taken to a hospital, where she was admitted to until her death.
“She was not the kind of woman that would keep guns for robbers. She was a gentle woman and did not make trouble with people. I am not saying this because I am a family member; ask from her church members and co-tenants and everybody will testify to her good character.“Initially, we decided to take her corpse for burial after we were asked to write a letter for the release of her corpse; we had called a lawyer who drafted a letter for us. But when we were told to swear to an affidavit that after the body was released to us we would not make any trouble, we consulted some lawyers who advised against it because the police could use it against us and arrest family members.
“At this point, what we want is the help of the government to unravel the cause of her death and the reason for the affidavit.”
Lateef lamented the effect of the death on the deceased’s husband, a retired head teacher.
He said the widower, Samuel Akinmushire, was admitted to a hospital for three days and had suffered depression.
The National Coordinator of NOPRIN, Okechukwu Nwanguma, in a letter to the Chairman of the PSC, asked that an autopsy be conducted on the corpse.
“The police claimed to have carried out an autopsy, but the family did not know when and where this happened. The family demands a thorough and impartial investigation to unravel the actual cause of death. As part of this investigation, the family demands a transparent autopsy where the family medical and legal representatives will be present.
“NOPRIN calls on the PSC to ensure a prompt, impartial and thorough investigation into the cause of death and that necessary actions should be taken against any officer involved if a case of extrajudicial killing is established,” he said.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Chike Oti, said there was no foul play in the death.
“The police were investigating a very serious case of armed robbery and gunrunning. Along the line, the woman became a suspect in the case. She was arrested on the suspicion that she was the gang’s armourer and she admitted to the crime.
“She mentioned the name of another suspect whom she claimed had some of the guns. She was taking police operatives to the place when she suddenly jumped out of vehicle and started running. They chased her and she fell and broke her leg.
“She was taken to the Police College Cottage Hospital, Ikeja, from where she was referred to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja, for better treatment. LASUTH further referred her to the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Igbobi. Days later, the woman died at the hospital.”
Oti explained that the affidavit demanded by the police was only a requirement by law to ensure the deceased’s family did not return to deny receiving the corpse.
