President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday asked Nigerian elite to stop making what he called expensive demands from his administration because things would no longer be done in the old way.

He warned them to stop insisting that things should be done the old way which impoverished the nation.

The President spoke during a meeting he had with a group of Nigerians in the Diaspora, on the margins of the 3rd Dakar International Forum on Peace and Security in Africa in Dakar, Senegal.

According to a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, the President said his administration was on the right track to improve the image of the country by entrenching accountability and probity in governance.

He told the 11-man Nigerian delegation of association leaders resident in Senegal and Cote D’ Ivoire, that the last 16 years of poor handling of the nation’s resources and infrastructure have continued to impact negatively on the country.

The President, “This administration is pleased we won the election, we are pleased Nigerians are cooperating with us. But the problems are so enormous that we need the cooperation of Nigerians, particularly the elite.

“They (elite) should reflect on the condition of the country, and stop making expensive demands because things cannot be done the old way.”

On the welfare of Nigerians in the Diaspora, Buhari assured them that the Federal Government would continue to promote good neighbourliness and improve the negative perception about Nigerians abroad.

“Nigerians are known for their competitiveness and I am very passionate about Nigeria. I will continue to preach good neighbourliness and work hard to improve the numerous human and material resources in the country,” he said.

In the suit filed before Magistrate B. O. Osusanmi, Mrs. Chinyere Anuma informed the court that on November 24, her husband demanded for his phone charger and while she was giving it to him, he also grabbed her Samsung Galaxy valued at N200,000.

Her words: “While I was trying to stop him from taking the phone, he started beating me.

“When the beating became too much, I held his manhood and he bit me in the cheek and right hand.”

According to police prosecutor, Insp. Simon Imhonwa, the husband and wife who reside at Ajao Estate, Lagos, lived like cat and dog at home due to the kind of friends the wife kept.

The magistrate adjourned the matter till February 15, 2017, for hearing.

Kidnapped FCMB Regional Manager's Wife Regains Freedom

The Benue State Police Command today Tuesday confirmed the release of a Radio Benue journalist, Mrs Jill Iyuadoo Tor-Agbidye, who was kidnapped last week at her home in Makurdi.

The State Police Spokesperson, Moses Yamu, who spoke to reporters in Makurdi, said the journalist was released in the early hours of Tuesday as he added that no ransom was paid.

According to him, police investigations revealed that the kidnappers might have had strong connection with the family.

Her husband is said to be a regional manager in First City Monument Bank (FCMB) in the state.

Unknown Gunmen Attack Mali Prison, Release Dozens Of Prisoners

Gunmen have this morning attacked and released dozens of prisoners at the Niono prison in central Mali, some 340km (211 miles) north of the capital, Bamako, officials say.

"The army was able to catch some and is launching a pursuit," the Reuters news agency quotes Defence Ministry spokesman Abdoulaye Sidibe as saying.

Malian officials and local media believe that Islamist militants were behind the prison break

It is unclear whether there were any jihadists at the prison at the time.

Last month, gunmen broke into another prison, in Banamba in southern Mali, with the aim of releasing some inmates who had already been moved, the authorities said.

Several Islamist armed groups operate in Mali's northern deserts.

UN peacekeepers have been based in the country following an intervention by the French military in 2013 to oust the Islamist militants from northern towns.

75-Year Old Man Who Just Lost His Wife Advertises For Wife

A 75-year-old Tanzanian man has launched an elaborate search for a partner after his wife died.

Athumani Mchambua has put up advertising posters in the low income area of Mbagala in the main city of Dar es Salaam, urging interested applicants to show up for an interview.

The poster, in Swahili, says the successful candidate must be hardworking, able to handle farm work and be willing to be a step-mother to his 11 children:

Mr Mchambua told the BBC's Munira Hussein that he wanted to do the search on his own and not through intermediaries, which is traditional in some cultures.

I felt that if I was to use a traditional intermediary to find a wife, they might find a woman and then want to keep her for themselves. That's why I decided that I search for her on my own, and put out those posters.
He has so far interviewed four candidates:

I have held the interview only once and four candidates showed up, but no one had all the qualities. Some mentioned only two out of four [qualities] but not more than that."
His daughter Dalia Mchambua told the BBC that she was happy with her father's process and was ready to accept the winning "candidate" as her mother.

Football referee receives mass beating after he red carded players(Photos)

Raging football hooligans beat a referee within an inch of his life after he red-carded several players during a match in Argentina.

The mob was held back by police as they hurled insults from the stands before they broke free and poured onto the pitch.

Father-of-three Claudio Elichiri fled after being punched in the face and chased by the hooligans as a handful of officers did what little they could to protect him.

Today the local league president claimed it was a “miracle” he was alive as the injured ref showed off his wounds, including a nasty cut under his eye that required four stitches.UK Mirror reports

The Argentinian official said he couldn’t lift his lips from the beating he had received as footage emerged of the moment he was attacked and forced to run for safety.

The violence erupted during a fourth-division match between Sarmiento and Sansinena, who come from different cities in the province of Buenos Aires.

Players from home side Sarmiento surrounded the ref after he failed to award them a penalty and their rivals scored a goal on the break moments later. After he handed out several red cards over their angry protests and ended up suspending the match because of the number of players left on the field, angry fans invaded the pitch to let their fists and feet do the talking.

Last night the injured ref said:
“This has got to stop once and for all. I got a real beating. I can’t even move my lips.It was something completely unexpected. I sent a Sarmiento player off for insulting me, another hit me from behind and it all kicked off from there. There were a lot of people, very few police officers and I couldn’t do anything. It’s the first time this has ever happened to me. I’ve got three children, I felt powerless. When I got home my wife and I hugged each other and we cried.”
He told a local radio station: “I don’t make my living from refereeing. I run a construction firm with my dad. I love refereeing and I’m not going to stop now. It’s really bad what happened but things like this make you stronger.“There has to be a really firm punishment for the people who did this.”
A referee in Mexico died last month after being headbutted by a player he had red-carded.

Read the official press statement from the Nigerian Police Force:

The coordinated clampdown on crime and criminality throughout the country has continued to yield positive results.

2. The IGP Intelligence Response Team (IRT) recorded another breakthrough with the arrest of three of the kidnappers that murdered one and kidnapped five expatriate members of staff of Dangote group. The IRT, armed with credible intelligence, between November 27, 2016 and December 3, 2016 arrested three of the kidnappers: Abubakar Gide 24, Abdullahi Salihu 22, and Babuga Adamu 25 in Ijebu Igbo - Ogun state, Epe Forest - Lagos State and Ajase Ipo Forest - kwara state respectively.

3. The suspects confessed to kidnapping and releasing all five initial victims after receiving N5.6 million ransom. They also confessed to kidnapping and murdering the ransom transporter, Mr. Istifanus Gurama, also of Dangote group.

4. However, it is imperative relations of kidnap victim(s) should exercise considerable restraint in negotiating and paying ransom. It is absolutely important the negotiators of ransom should have confidence in the police.

5. Meanwhile, the suspects have since led the police to their hideout in Ijebu Igbo Ogun Forest where the following arms and ammunition they used in the operation were recovered: 3 AK47 rifles, 6 AK47 magazines and 160 rounds of ammunition. The suspects further led IRT operatives to Apoje River where the body of Mr. Bello Gurama was recovered. Efforts are in progress to arrest other gang members who are currently at large in other states.

6. The IGP admonishes police officers not to get carried away by recent successes but instead redouble their efforts in the fight against crime; and has assured Nigerians that the police will remain undaunted in the collective fight against crime. As members of the public begin the yuletide celebrations, the police will ensure the celebrations are crime free.

UNIJOS Suspends Professor Caught Cheating In Exams

Image result wey dey for home alone

The University of Jos (UNIJOS) has suspended one of its academic staff who was allegedly caught cheating while writing an examination on May 4, Premium Times reports.

Benedicta Daudu, an associate professor of law and former head of the Department of Jurisprudence and International Law of the Faculty of Law in UNIJOS, was allegedly caught copying from a prepared answer during an examination for a Master’s degree in Research and Public Policy in the Faculty of Social Sciences of the same university.

The development was exclusively reported by Premium Times on May 21, frustrating what some staff and student described as a plot by the university to cover up the matter.

After the report, Mrs. Daudu’s membership of the Presidential Advisory Committee against Corruption was immediately suspended.

Insiders at UNIJOS have now told PremiumTimes that the lecturer has been suspended from work, and from the masters programme.

“I can confirm to you that the Senate Disciplinary Committee found her guilty of the allegations, and has suspended her from the Masters programme for two semesters,” an official of the university told this newspaper.

“Also, the matter was referred to the Staff Disciplinary Committee which also suspended her from work. So she is no longer teaching.”

Another official of the university said the professor sued the institution over her suspension.

The status of the court case remained unclear as at the time of publishing this report on Monday.

All UNIJOS officials who spoke to Premium Times on the matter asked not be named for fear they might be accused of plotting the professor’s downfall.

Even the spokesperson for the university, Abdullahi Abdullahi, simply said, “Please, please, I have no comment on this matter.”

When contacted by telephone on Monday, Mrs. Daudu, the affected professor said, “Please excuse me, please, please” after our reporter asked her for updates on her examination malpractice case.

Asked when the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC) would allow the professor back to her post, Executive Secretary, Bolaji Owasanoye, said, “Until matter is
resolved, she remains away from PACAC.”

The committee, headed by prominent law professor and civil rights campaigner, Itse Sagay, and made up of mainly university professors, is the intellectual wing of Mr Buhari’s anti-corruption war.

The mandate of the committee includes advising the President on the implementation of required reforms in Nigeria’s anti-corruption campaign and criminal justice system.

Although she has a Masters in Law, the associate professor was working towards another masters in Research and Public Policy.

Premium Times learnt that the department later accused her of sneaking in prepared answers, also referred to as “chokes” by students, during the examination for the Global Context in Public Policy course.

Nigeria's Victor Moses, who plays for Chelsea FC, has been named English Premier League African Player of the Month of November by organisers New African Soccer.

The Super Eagles winger edged Kenya’s Victor Wanyama of Tottenham and fellow Nigerian, Victor Anichebe of Sunderland to win a second straight award in two consecutive months.

Moses has flourished in a new right wing-back role under Chelsea manager Antonio Conte and has been instrumental in his team being top of the Premier League.

Tunde Adelakun, CEO of New African Soccer said, "Victor Wanyama, also a one-time winner of the award, put up a strong showing and this was rightly justified, considering his role in Tottenham Hotspur’s early surge which made them the last to be beaten in the League. His move from Southampton was a positive one."

A fashion apprentice, Blessing Alex, has been found dead in a well after she was reportedly forced to abort her three-month-old pregnancy.

The incident was said to have occurred in Iselle-Azagba community in the Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta State.

A source told  Punch correspondent on Monday that the deceased, who hailed from Ikoto town in the Ini Local Government Area of Cross River State was discovered to be pregnant for one of the villagers, but her parents insisted that she removed the foetus.

It was learnt that Blessing, who had gone missing for about 10 days, was found dead in the well in the community on Saturday by members of the community vigilance group.

The deceased was to be attached to a sewing institute for further training when she was allegedly impregnated by her boyfriend who is an indigene of the community.

Another villager, who identified himself simply as Uche, said the incident had thrown the community into mourning.

He added that many thought that the girl might have committed suicide as a result of her parents’ stance on her pregnancy and the depression she suffered after it was aborted.

“Not too long ago, the victim, who was living with her father and stepmother, aborted her pregnancy.

“It was learnt that she was forced to remove the foetus because the family members were not comfortable with her relationship with the man who impregnated her.

“Since then, she had not been herself both in composure and behaviour until she was found dead,” a source disclosed.

When asked to state the extent of investigation, the Delta State Commissioner of Police, Zanna Ibrahim, said he was not aware of the incident.
