EFCC Arraigns ‘Let’s Partner With You’ MD, Wife For N4bn Fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Thursday, April 6, 2016, arraigned Patrick Shanchi Nwokike, Managing Director of a wonder bank, ‘Let’s Partner With You’ alongside his wife, Rosemary Ifeoma Nwokike, before Justice Dugbo Aghoghorie of the Federal High Court sitting in Enugu, Enugu State on a 10-count charge bordering on Advanced Fee Fraud and carrying out banking business without valid License.

The offence runs contrary to the provisions of Section 8 (a) of the Advance Fee Fraud and other fraud related offences Act, 2006 and punishable under Section 1(3) of the same Act. It also breaches Section 2(1) of the Banks and Other Financial Institutions Act.

Nwokike and his wife’s journey to the dock followed series of petitions from Nigerians across religious, gender, ethnic, economic and social strata alleging that their company, ‘Let’s Partner With You’, had over the past five years solicited and obtained deposits of more than N4billion from the general public with promises of mouth-watering interest in return.

Investigation revealed that, the company had no license to solicit and manage funds for the public nor was it registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission, SEC, or the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation, NDIC.

‘Let’s Partner With You’ was found to have over six accounts in about four banks with Nwokike and his wife being the only signatories to the accounts.

Further investigations revealed that the company had, for some time, paid a 10% (ten percent) interest on invested capital but suddenly stopped and efforts by depositors to have at least their initial investments were futile.

Obasanjo's Wife Loses Bid To Stop Her Son's Wedding

An Ikeja High Court has dismissed the suit filed by Mrs Taiwo Obasanjo, wife of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, seeking postponement of the wedding of her son Olujonwo to Tope Adebutu.

Justice Lateefa Okunnu dismissed the suit on the grounds that the court lacked jurisdiction to hear the suit because her son Olujonwo, 33, is an adult.

“On March 27, I ordered counsel to direct me on whether the family court can hear a case where the child is an adult. Counsel have addressed me and I have read the processes before me.

“I have found to be very genuine, what the applicant said regarding performing her parental duties in paragraph 15 of her affidavit. The court, regrettably, lacks the competence to adjudicate this suit, the jurisdiction of the family court covers children under the age of 18 years.

“The respondents son is 33-years-old, this negates the ability of this court to entertain this suit. The proper order to give is one dismissing this suit in its entirety, I hereby dismiss this suit,” the judge said.

Former President Obasanjo and the father of the bride, Sir Kessington Adebutu, promoter of Premier Lotto known as “Baba Ijebu” are the respondents to the suit. Mrs Taiwo Obasanjo was present in court while former President Obasanjo and Sir Adebutu were absent.
Mrs Obasanjo had in her suit filed on March 27, prayed that the wedding which is scheduled for May 11, be moved to any date after June 1 which is Olujonwo’s 34th birthday. According to her, she had received various warnings and prophecies from men of God that her son should not be involved in any elaborate celebration before his birthday.

Nigeria Police Reacts To Governor Wike's Allegation

The Nigeria Police Force has dismissed allegation by Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State that the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris planned to kill him.

It described the allegation as malicious, saying it's capable of misleading and causing disaffection between the NPF and the people of Rivers State, the police spokesman, Jimoh Moshood said in a statement.

Wike had in an interview said the IG had instructed the state Commissioner of Police to kill him, but the police countered him, saying the governor is being guarded by 221 policemen.

CSP Moshood stressed that the governor had more policemen than some police area commands in some states and also faulted claims by Wike that nine Commissioners of Police had served in the state since the IG assumed office, hinting that only three CPs had served there.

He said, "There was no time either recently or in the past that the Inspector-General of Police gave an order or assignment to the Commissioner of Police, Rivers State or any police officer anywhere in the country to kill Mr. Nyesom Wike, the Executive Governor of Rivers State or directs the Commissioner of Police, Rivers State to cage the governor as alleged.

“It is incumbent on the Nigeria Police Force to educate the general public and draw the attention of the governor to the facts and figures available for press and members of the public to verify, that there are 221 police personnel attached currently to Governor Nyesom Wike for his personal and office protection.”

According to the police, the personnel attached to Wike included one Aide-De-Camp, one Chief Security Officer, one Unit Commander (Special Protection Unit); one Unit Commander (Counter Terrorism Unit) and one Escort Commander.

Others are one Camp Commander; one Admin officer to administer the police personnel, 54 Inspectors, 136 Sergeants and 24 Corporals.

Fayose, Wike Free To Leave PDP - Sheriff

The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, has said the party is ready to call the bluff of its governors that are not ready to accept him.

He also said the party was not ready to collect money from the governors to fund the party, saying the former ruling party would not collect what he called “stolen money from the governors.”

He added that the party would not defend any of the governors when the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission came after them on how they spent state money while in office.

Sheriff, who spoke to a Punch correspondent through his deputy, Dr. Cairo Ojougboh, on the telephone in Abuja on Saturday, said the party was ready to move on without the governors who refused to join hands in rebuilding the party.

Ojougboh, who said he was already in the South-East, where he said the party was going to commence its nationwide mobilisation, specifically said both the governors of Rivers and Ekiti states, Nyesom Wike and Ayodele Fayose, were free to leave the party if they so desired.

Sheriff and members of his team had, on Thursday in Abuja, walked out of a reconciliatory meeting called by former President Goodluck Jonathan over disagreements on how the meeting should be conducted.

Sheriff had insisted that he would preside over the meeting, but Wike and Fayose disagreed, saying Jonathan should preside since it was a reconciliatory and not a party meeting.

However, members of the National Caretaker Committee of the party led by Senator Ahmed Makarfi and other stakeholders did not leave the venue, even after Sheriff and his team left.

Jonathan, who described the walkout by Sheriff and his team as unfortunate, said he was going to set up a committee of not more than 40 persons on how to resolve the crisis in the party.

Makarfi and members of his team are currently at the Supreme Court, where they filed an appeal against the judgment of a Federal High Court, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, which affirmed Sheriff as the national chairman of the troubled party.

He said the party would not want to be dragged into how the governors spent the resources of their states.

Ojougboh said, “We are moving on with the determination to reposition the party. We are not interested in the funding of the party from the governors. They are free to leave if they want to, especially Wike and Fayose.

“We are also not interested in their money. The party belongs to the people, they will finance it. So, if the governors want to withhold money from the party, they are free. We don’t receive stolen money. They have not been funding us and we are surviving.”

He said the party was already planning a nationwide campaign, adding that they were already in the South-East where he said the campaign would start.

“We are starting with Anambra, Imo, Ebonyi, Enugu and Abia states, and then we will move to Cross River State. The party belongs to the people and not to governors who will want to steal people’s money,” he added.

Efforts made by our correspondent to get the reaction of Fayose, who is also the Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, failed as his aide refused to speak on the matter.

His Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Idowu Adelusi, promised to call our correspondent back but failed to do as of the time of filling this report.

Angry Wife Storms Wedding With 2 Kids, Insists The Groom Is Her Husband

Serious drama took over a Church in Kanyama area of Kenya on Saturday, April 8th, after a woman stormed the arena claiming the groom was her husband and father of her children. The drama mandated a temporary stoppage of the wedding ceremony.

The woman identified as Lydia Mugure stormed the church accompanied by her two children and demanded entry after police officers locked the main gate denying her and others.

While outside the church, she cried that her husband had neglected her and their children since December 2016. She claims he was getting married to the officiating minister's secretary named Grace.

"We broke up on December 31, 2016. I have no problem with our separation but he has decided to marry again. I have two children, one aged 10 and the other aged 5. What I want is he takes his children with him. He has married another woman in pretence of having no children. I also want to marry without the stress of being a mother," she said.

"We have been married for ten years. I don't want him. On Wednesday, he had told me that the wedding would not take place. As at yesterday (Friday April 7th) plans of the wedding were still on. That is why I came here today to disrupt the wedding. Let us first settle the children dispute and then we can move on after that. He has a pending case at the children's court. He has been summoned four times to appear before the court, but he has never honoured the court summons" said Ms Mugure.

After exchanging vows, the couple quickly left the church while being hidden by family members.

People have criticized the officiating Minister named Moses Muturi for rushing the function, saying they had been informed of the wedding just few days ago. They threatened to boycott Sunday service unless Rev. Muturi apologizes and rectifies his mistake.

But the Minister said the wedding can only be stopped by a court order.

"So, we had no reason to stop the wedding. So, the two's marriage is now formal. The former wife can go to court."

Prepare For "War" If You Launch Airstrikes On Syria Again – Putin dares Trump

Russsian President, Vladimir Putin, and America's Donald Trump, are set for a fall out that could lead to a show of force between both super power nations.
Coming after the United States airforce launched an airstrike on Syria, the Russian Government has warned the United States to back off or be prepared for real war.

The fallout comes after Pres. Trump in the early hours of Friday, ordered airstrikes (pictured) on a Syrian airbase in the first direct attack by the US against Assad, due to alleged chemical attack.

The said, "What America waged in an aggression on Syria is a crossing of red lines. From now on we will respond with force to any aggressor or any breach of red lines from whoever it is and America knows our ability to respond well."

Russian Embassy in London suggested, on Sunday night, that there could be ‘real war’ if Moscow is presented with an ultimatum over Syria.
