David, aged 23, beat his younger brother, Onu, to death following a minor quarrel that had to do with an errand.
The incident took place at Ubia Amaetiti in Amoso Edda, Afikpo South Local Government Area of Ebonyi State. It was gathered that their mother, Mary, had sent the deceased on an errand, but he refused to go.

The furious mother reported him to his elder brother, who then descended on him and inflicted bodily harm, which led to his death. A source said: “Last Friday, July 28, a boy called Onu was sent on an errand by his mother but he refused to go.

Eventually his elder brother, David, returned from a journey same day and his mother reported him to his elder brother. “His brother started beating Onu and he fell down. He was rushed to the hospital. The first hospital declined to handle him.

“They then rushed him to another hospital in Owutu Edda, where he was admitted. “The following day, being Saturday, the boy died. The family reported the matter to the Police Station, but the Police directed them to deposit his remains at the morgue.

“Strangely again, the mortuary department of the General Hospital in Owutu Edda rejected the corpse, saying they don’t have chemicals for preserving corpse.

They then took him home for burial, but the Police did not allow them bury him. They later took the body to another mortuary.”

Contacted on phone, the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Jude Madu, said he would get back to Vanguard as soon as his office was furnished with details of the incident, but had not done so at press time.

How Men Addicted To Vile Pornography Rape & Kill Women

The horrific killing of Hannah Pearson, 16, has thrown the spotlight on the worrying relationship between the ready availability of violent pornography and the rape and murder of women and girls.
Bubbly blonde farmer's daughter Hannah was killed by James Morton, a man obsessed with sexual strangulation. Her death came about after he plied her with alcohol, forcing her to recreate a scene he had watched in a porn film.

While there are no formal statistics available from the Home Office or the Ministry of Justice on the links between viewing porn and committing violent sex crime, there have been a number of murders in recent years in which the perpetrators have been known to have viewed - or been regular viewers - of extreme porn.

From left: Hannah Pearson, 16, Jane Longhurst, 31, Joanna Yeates, 25, Becky Watts, 16, Georgia Williams, 17, and April Jones, five, were all brutally murdered by men obsessed with violent pornography - which their killers (bottom) often copied in the most chilling fashion.

How Pastors caused increase in deaths of pregnant women – Cross River Commissioner

Cross River Health Commissioner, Inyang Asibong, has said that the increasing mortality rate of pregnant women was due to the encouragement from Pastors who persuade them to patronize of Faith Based Organizations (FBOs).

Asibong stated this while delivering a keynote lecture at the 2017 Annual General Meeting and Scientific Conference of the Cross River State chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association where she said that the state is putting measures in place to return residents to medical facilities.
She said: “We have religious leaders telling these people what and what not to do, and they prefer listening to them than their parents or health workers.
“Most times they prefer to labor for long and are taken to the hospital when they are on their last breath. Eventually when they die in the hospital, we are not allowed to prosecute because the leaders in question are pastors and they get away with it.”

She said the aberration will be tackled through the building of advocacy centers, which will be used for purposes of intervention to prevent such incidents from occurring again.
“We are trying to break that culture by employing health advocacy centers and are also talking to the pastors who are ignorant, to let their patients be in the hospitals where they can always come and pray for them,” said Dr. Asibong.
She listed some cases she had been involved in and pointed out that the challenge of FBOs was common in Sub-Saharan Africa especially those fanatical about religion.
Also, she pointed out that early detection of diseases and intervention was key to excellent clinical performance.
She said that: “Early intervention and prevention is better than cure as we live in a resource constrained setting. If we wait till the disease has progressed, we would have a problem treating that person.
“Take for instance cancer, we don’t have enough equipments in treating it but if cervical cancer is dictated early, it can be completely cured.

Linkin Park albums make it back to US top 10 charts following Chester Bennington’s death

Two albums by Linkin Park re-entered the top 10 on the US sales chart Tuesday as fans mourned the suicide of frontman Chester Bennington.
“One More Light,” the California rockers’ final album, which hit number one when it came out in May, jumped back to number four on the Billboard chart for the week through Thursday.

“Hybrid Theory” — Linkin Park’s debut album, which was the top-selling US album of 2001 and produced angst-ridden hits such as “In The End” — returned at number eight on the latest weekly chart, tracking service Nielsen Music said. Bennington — whose raw metal voice complemented the hip-hop interludes of Linkin Park guitarist Mike Shinoda — was found hanging at his Los Angeles home on July 20.
The 41-year-old had long struggled with drug and alcohol abuse and the trauma of child abuse. Family and friends buried Bennington privately Saturday in Los Angeles, according to social media postings of participants.
The band on the internet has also endorsed hundreds of public events around the world to honor Bennington ranging from charity shows to fan meet-ups. In a sign of the global appeal of Linkin Park, one of the busiest areas for memorial events is Asia, where the band’s song “Numb” topped the latest song download charts in Singapore and Hong Kong.

Mikel Obi, who is married to a Russian woman Olga Diyachenko, revealed that his Russian family, relatives and friends were earnestly rooting for Super Eagles to be at the World Cup next year, adding that he was optimistic that Nigeria can earn a place at the global finals.

The Tijanjin Teda of China midfielder , who spoke to FIFA. COM, said:
“My wife is Russian and many of our relatives and friends are from Russia. They are all expecting Nigeria to qualify for the next World Cup. I think they will kill me if I fail them,” he added, laughing.
“We are in a very good position in our group. We have two wins from two games, and in our last game we beat Algeria at home. We have a very good young team and the players play good football. If we can win our next match (at home to Cameroon on 31 August) it will edge us closer to qualification. I think we can go through.”
“As everyone knows, they are a very good team. They are strong and they play with confidence. We must get ourselves well prepared for this game and try our best to get on top against them. It won’t be easy but these are important matches. If we win both, we will be almost there.”
As might be expected given his role as captain, Mikel Obi had figured prominently in Nigeria’s qualifying campaign thus far. Notably, he scored one and set up for another in their most recent triumph: a 3-1 win over Algeria in November.

The former Chelsea star who had been sidelined over the months by injury, vowed to do everything within his power to be fit for this vital upcoming double-header.

“I had maintained good form until this injury,” he said. “So it was a shame. But this is part of the game and now I am focusing on recovery and on coming back stronger. I will do whatever I can to get fit to play for Teda and my national team.
“This Nigeria team look up to me for advice. My team-mates miss me and they need me. As the captain, I want to fulfil my role and help them with my experience.”
“The next World Cup in Russia will be a fresh chance for us but, first, we have to make it there. Then the next challenge will be to make sure we enjoy an even better tournament in Russia than we did in Brazil.”
Nigeria is already four points clear of second-placed Cameroon and five ahead of Zambia and Algeria in Group B.
