Ambode is doing well in Lagos, Fashola hypes himself – PDP

The Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has lauded what it termed the outstanding performance of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of the All Progressives Congress in the state.

The spokesman for the opposition PDP chapter, Taofik Gani, said in a statement on Monday, that Ambode had taken government’s presence to many areas in the state allegedly abandoned for eight years by his predecessor, Babatunde Fashola.

The PDP advised President Muhammadu Buhari to be wary of Fashola, who, it said, had a penchant for making unverifiable claims of achievements.

The party also expressed reservation over Buhari’s decision to give 3 ministerial portfolios relating to engineering to Fashola, who is a lawyer.

The PDP berated Fashola for celebrating a proposed injection of 30 megawatts into the national grid, when, according to the PDP, the minister had been provided with resources enough to inject over 500 megawatts into it.

Gani said instead of celebrating, Fashola should have been sober for allegedly mismanaging the country’s power generation from “6000MW when he took over to now less than 2000MW.”

He said, “We sincerely advise President Buhari to be very wary of the deceptive skills of Fashola who will usually hype and celebrate even mediocrity.

“Fashola has a penchant for misrepresenting facts of his achievements in government and would always rationalise obvious inadequacies.

“As governor of Lagos State, he enjoyed unprecedented revenues and donations, yet he left many services untouched or unfinished. He, however, deliberately funded his pro-Fashola media and commentators so much that pseudo and exaggerated achievements were ascribed to him.

“He employed this model to promote his eight years government of mediocrity. Fashola ended up making Lagos State the biggest debtor with local and foreign debts well over N1trn.”

I’m so happy to be a part of the Mavins because they work as one-Iyanya

Iyanya and Don Jazzy
24 hours ago, Nigerian singer, Iyanya, who co-owned his former label MMMG with his partner of many years, Ubi Franklin, made a decision to quit and sign a new record deal with the Don Jazzy-led Mavin Records.

The news of his move to Mavin came as a surprise to many. His decision to join Mavin also makes it the first time a Nigerian pop artiste will leave his own established label to sign up with a competing company.
The move brought a lot of questions, speculations and uncertainty. And Thenetng was able to track Iyanya down for an exclusive interview on the new move, and he explained to us the reason he made the switch.

In his words, ‘It’s official, I’m a Mavin now, we’ve dropped the first single and there’s more coming. Everything is official, it’s not a production deal, I’m part of the label now. I look forward to more hits and more achievements.’
How long did it take for this deal to pull through? To be honest, it wasn’t something that we planned. After working with Don Jazzy on ‘Gift’ last year, I left MMMG, then I joined Temple Management Company and we just thought about it, we needed the Iyanya brand to work with somebody who understands the music industry and can help me fulfill that dream and make sure I get my music right which is the most important thing.

You hinted on setting up your own label when you left MMMG, what happened? Honestly, It’s not hard for me to set up my own label. It costs about 120,000 to register a label, but my brand alone demands a lot of attention and the truth is I actually started a label, like I started the movement but I didn’t even see anybody that I could trust on that level because the future and what I want to achieve is way beyond putting 10 people together and moving around with branded T-shirts, which is what everybody wants you to do. But I thought about it and decided I need something stronger, I need to concentrate on this music because you can own a label but if you are not making good music, nobody cares. Starting a label also meant that I’ll be in charge of my music, logistics and everything, it’s too stressful and I don’t think I’m ready for that and the best option was Don Jazzy because from our studio session for ‘Gift’ last year we knew our working together was always smooth and productive so we just made it official.

              Iyanya and Don Jazzy

Did you have to think about this new deal for a long time? Yes, I thought about it, but like I said I made the decision to join them because I saw that they had what I want. First of all, Don Jazzy is an amazing producer so working with him or having him supervise my project is a blessing for me. I’m just trying to get it right.

Apart from Mavin, did you get offers from other labels?

There’s no offer I didn’t get. I’ve worked hard enough to have people call me and say I have money and I’m ready to invest, I have so many of those people home and abroad. But like I said, people will always come through with these deals because they want to make money and when they invest and don’t make the money back they’ll abandon you. I didn’t want to take that risk and I didn’t want any body running to the media again to say I owe them for anything. Those opportunities were there but I let it all go for something I know Is very sure. Don Jazzy is a perfectionist, I just needed someone like. I’ll be 10 years in this industry in a couple of months, but I don’t want to carry that on my head, I still feel like I can learn more.

How much is this deal worth and how many years did you sign with Mavin? I can’t tell you that. Why should I tell people that. I don’t think I should tell them that, I think the most important thing for people right now is to know if I’m going to be giving out good music because that’s the relationship I have with the people. They don’t really care if I own my label or not. It’s all about the music.

                         Don Jazzy and Iyanya

How easy was it to walk away from a company you co-owned to sign up with Mavin?

I co-owned MMMG and to be honest with you, the whole leg work and logistics was by Ubi Franklin which I’ll always respect him for, he did a great job, he worked really hard to make sure we got to where we are and I did my own part. So for me to start my own label, it means I’ll have to be my own ‘Ubi’ which to be honest is not very easy.

So it wasn’t easy leaving it behind, but so many times you need to just let that pride go, sometimes just act like you didn’t even co-own it, sometimes act like you’ve never had a hit song because I’m not trying to end this, I’m trying to create it. I’m 30 years old today [October 31], I’m trying to show people a new side of me, new music, new management everything is new.

With all the talents in Mavin, are you really excited to be part of them?

I’m so happy to be a part of the Mavins because they work as one. And now I see why they’ve been successful because everybody works as one, there’s nothing like this one came first, this one came second. There’s respect in the Mavins, it’s a great family to be part of.

She bought a house after scamming all her 20 boyfriends to get her iPhone7s

Following the launch of the iPhone 7 in September, a woman simply known as Xiaoli, from Shenzhen in China managed to convince each of the 20 guys she was dating to buy her an iPhone 7.

She then sold the phones via the tech recyling website Hui Shou Nao and made 115,010 Chine yuan (N5,350,384), which she then used to buy a house in the countryside.

Son Beheads Village Head, Throws Corpse Into Pit Toilet

Disaster struck, penultimate Monday, at Ekpri Ikot Ene community, Akpabuyo Local Government Area, Cross River State, when an enraged 23-year-old son butchered his father, who is the village head, HRH Francis Ekpo Ene, and dumped his remains inside the family’s pit toilet for persistently accusing him of stealing his money without facts.

NDV gathered that killer-son (Francis Ekpo Jnr.) supposedly acted under a powerful and diabolical influence, as he was not known to be a violent person before the sacrilegious incident.

How it happened—Wife

The wife of the deceased, Mrs. Affiong Offiong Asuquo, who spoke to NDV, said signs of trouble emerged in the household when an unnoticeable amount of money, sometimes between N20, 000 to N50, 000 started disappearing from the safe in the bedroom of the late ruler. Continue...

Her words: “The problem started when my husband’s money started missing and he had always thought that it was his first son, who was responsible for the theft, not knowing that he was not the person involved, and he had always denied being the one. The height was when he sold his oil and kept N90,000 in a Nido milk can and the money got missing again, he was really angry because he could not fathom why such an amount of money could get missing in his house.”

She confided in NDV that the money was actually being stolen by their daughter, who after her escapade, disappeared to her boyfriend’s place and returned after they exhausted the cash, pretending as she knew nothing and the late villager head would rail accusations on the epileptic son. She said the boy had always said: “One day, I will steal your money since you are accusing me of what I did not do. He had also been cursing that one day; I will slaughter you and throw you inside the toilet for accusing me wrongly.’

All these came to pass that night as the father started shouting at him to provide the money he took from his room, the boy got angry and picked up a cutlass and pursued his father as I tried to intervene, he almost cut me,” the widow said.

She further explained: “I had to call for help, I went out to call people, including the youth leader because it was a bit late at night, before I came back with the people in a matter of minutes, the deed had already been done, he had already killed his father and dumped him inside the pit toilet behind the house.”

Blood trace

She added : “When I came back with the people I went to seek help from, they asked him where his father was, he replied that he does not know, so they started searching for him, then they saw a blood trail, which they followed right to the pit toiletand saw that he has butchered the monarch with a little flesh just holding his head to his neck, pushed off the mud which covered part of the toilet so that the opening could allow the lifeless body into the toilet.”

Speaking further, she told NDV that they apprehended him and handed him over to the Police and her husband embalmed in the house.

At the deceased’s residence

Meanwhile, when NDV reporter got to the house of the village head, his kinsmen, including the children were seen eating. One of his daughters, Favour Francis Ekpo, said: “She was not around when the incident took place, but she knew that her elder brother and father have had little issues for some time. She further asserted: “I was called on the phone when the incident took place because I was not at home I only came back to see what happened.”

See How a Lagos hotelier turned a job seeker into a sex worker

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a hotelier, Victor Obano, for allegedly turning a 23-year-old female job seeker into a commercial sex worker in the Ijegun area of the state.

The police said Obano, who owned Tisa Hotel, allegedly lured the victim, Elizabeth, from Akwa Ibom, promising her employment in Lagos State.
Obano allegedly thereafter turned the job seeker into a sex worker in the hotel.
PUNCH Metro learnt that Elizabeth, a mother of two, reportedly got tired of being a commercial sex worker, and on October 5, told her elder sister on the telephone what she was going through.
The sister was said to have informed the police at the Anti-Robbery Squad of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Yaba, leading to Obano’s arrest.
Our correspondent gathered that another accomplice, a commercial sex worker, identified as Grace Edet, who allegedly was Elizabeth’s supervisor, was also picked up by the police.
Speaking with PUNCH Metro at the command headquarters, Ikeja, Obano, who admitted to have brought the victim from Akwa Ibom, said he only assisted her to find a means of livelihood.
He said, “I am the manager of Tisa Hotel in the Ijegun waterside. I am not a human trafficker. It was only this lady that I brought from the village. I met with her father and he explained her predicament. She is 23 years old. She has two kids and she was living a miserable life. So, I decided to get a job for her.
“The police arrested me because I seized her phones. They said I did not want her to contact her family members, but I collected her phone because I did not want her to have an affair with several men.
“It was her elder sister who reported the matter to the police. The victim is with her brother presently. The arrangement was that I would be paying her and she would also hustle in the hotel and send the money to take care of her father.
“The police should let this matter be settled amicably. It is a family issue.”
The accomplice, Edet, told our correspondent that Obano had instructed her to train Elizabeth in commercial sex.
She said, “I have worked in the hotel for some years. I am a commercial sex worker. When the manager came back from Akwa Ibom earlier in the year, he returned with the lady. He handed her over to me, saying I should teach her some tricks of the trade.
“I did not know the arrangement between them. When I asked the lady why she was brought, she replied that she was asked to hustle at the hotel. So, I do not have any fault in the matter.”
A police source told our correspondent that Obano allegedly had more girls he used as commercial sex workers in his hotel.
The state Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, who paraded the suspects, said the command would not tolerate any form of crime, urging the public to always avail the police of credible information.

Suspects arrested for stealing two bicycles worth N3m, sales them for 10,000

The police in Lagos State have arrested two suspects, Umaru Babangida and John Samuel, in connection with the stealing of two exotic sports bicycles worth about N3m.
According to Punch, the bicycles belong to a resident of Babatunde Crescent, Lekki Phase 1, identified as Osarenkhme Afe. It was gathered that the stolen items, a Scott X10 hybrid bicycle and a giant defy advanced carbon fibre road bicycle, were valued at N1.1M and N1.9m respectively.

Twenty-year-old Babangida, was said to have bought the Scott X10 hybrid bicycle from Samuel and other suspects at large for N10,000.

They were apprehended on October 22, after the case was reported to the police at the Maroko Police Division.

Punch gathered that Afe had come back from morning jogging on September 14, when he discovered that the bicycles had been stolen.

It was learnt that the thieves had crept into the building when a security guard manning it had slept off, stealing the guard’s phone and the bicycles.

One of the suspects, Babangida, told the police that he was initially suspicious that the bicycle was stolen, but decided to buy it after assurances that there was no problem.

He said,

“I bought the bicycle from a man that was brought to me by John (Samuel). I bought it for N10,000 but he didn’t give me a receipt. The man said it belonged to him and that I should not worry.”
Samuel denied the knowledge of the theft, saying he only facilitated the selling of the bicycle to Babangida.
“I met a man on the road and he said he wanted to sell a bicycle. I told him I didn’t have money and took him to my friend, Babangida. I didn’t know it was stolen,” he added.
A police prosecutor, Inspector Philip Osijale, on Monday arraigned the two suspects before a Tinubu Magistrate’s Court on three counts bordering on stealing and receiving stolen property.

The charges read in part,

“That you, John Samuel and others now at large on September 14, 2016, at about 6.30am, at Babatunde Crescent, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos, in the Eti-Osa Local Government Area, within the Lagos Magisterial District, did steal one giant defy advanced carbon fibre road bicycle valued at N1.935,000, and one Scott X10 hybrid bicycle valued at N1.1m, property of one Osarenkhme Afe, thereby committing an offence punishable under Section  285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.”
The defendants pleaded not guilty and were granted bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties each in like sum by a presiding magistrate, Mrs. M.B. Folami.

The case was adjourned till December 21, 2016
