A 41-year-old motor parts dealer, Mr Oladele Adelakun, has told Akure Customary Court that his wife’s misdemeanour lured him to alcoholism.

The man disclosed this while asking the court to put an end to his 16-year-old marriage with Mrs Kike Adelakun.

According to him, the respondent has been engaging in mischievous behaviours ranging from ritualism to promiscuity.

He said that he caught his wife twice in extra marital activities with a man named Felix which was settled by his pastor.

The complainant said that he was taking alcohol to keep away from tension caused by the respondent.

He said that the respondent’s harsh treatment of their three children also caused their constant rift which made the respondent to rain curses on him and tore his clothes severally.

Responding, Kike Adelakun denied other allegations, but confessed that the she once had sexual relationship with Felix before her marriage to the complainant.

She said that the complainant packed out three times during the marriage without her notice, but she later found out that he actually went to his mistress house which led to a secret wedding.

The respondent said that her husband’s allegation of not having sexual intercourse with her in the last three years was a lie, citing different instances when the complainant would secretly come to her apartment to make love with her.

Ruling on the case, Chief Rotimi Olusanya, the court’s President, said that peace should be restored to the two parties and adjourned the case till Nov.2 for judgment.

How CCTV exposed & disgraced police men who followed Yahoo boy to bank to withdraw money

Three policemen, who followed a suspected fraudster (yahoo boy) into a banking hall to forcefully withdraw money from his account have been arrested, dismissed and charged for armed robbery.

The policemen, Sergeant Okechukwu Okpokwu, Sergeant Idemudia Monday and Corporal Bienonwu Richard, were all attached to Area C Police Command, Surulere, Lagos State.

This is how it happened

Trouble started for the policemen after they sighted a a Honda Accord car (End of Discussion), white in colour while on a ‘Stop and Search’ duty along Bode Thomas Street and accused the driver of being a fraudster.

The policemen seized their phones and ATM cards.

A source said:

“Unfortunately for the driver, at that precise moment, a bank alert entered his phone. The alert allegedly implicated them as being cyber fraudsters. The policemen were happy. They asked the suspects the meaning of such an alert. The suspects started begging. The policemen said they would collect N1m or arrest them.”
It was gathered that while this haggling with the suspects was going on, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), who was in charge of the team, sat in the police patrol van with the police driver, unaware that his men were making a deal that would change their lives.

After haggling and begging, the policemen agreed to accept N350, 000. The driver told the policemen that he wouldn’t be able to withdraw N350, 000 with his ATM card. He said that he needed to go to bank to make withdrawal. One of the policemen, Okechukwu, said he would go with him.

The police source said:

“Before leaving for the bank, Okechukwu went and changed from his uniform, into a mufti. He went to his team leader, the ASP, who was inside the patrol van, to tell him that he needed a few minutes break. All this while, he held unto the ATM cards and phones of the suspects.
He didn’t want them to escape. He followed them to the nearest First bank branch there. The driver first used his ATM card to withdraw some money, but he couldn’t get up to N350, 000; he decided to cash the rest over the counter. Okechukwu followed him into the banking hall. After the driver collected the money, he handed it over to Okechukwu, but Okechukwu refused to collect it. He wanted to know if the money was complete.

The suspect told him to count it. He proceeded to count it.” Assured that the money was complete, Okechukwu handed the seized phones to the driver and his friend and went back to his duty post. When the driver got home, he narrated his experience to a friend. The friend narrated it to a policeman stationed at police headquarters, Ikeja. The matter was taken to Owoseni. Owoseni ordered that the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), in charge of operations, should investigate the matter. A radio message was sent that the policemen should report to the command.

When they walked into the DC’s office, they sighted the suspect and were shocked. The DC told the suspect to narrate his story. He did. The policemen said they had never set eyes on the suspect, let alone to have received N350, 000 from him. When the ASP heard the story, he was shocked.

He said he wasn’t aware of such an incident and didn’t know or recognise the suspect. The suspect told the DC that it was just the three policemen, Okechukwu, Monday and Richard that searched his car and later transacted with him. The suspect stressed that the ASP was inside the police van, with a police driver. The policemen still denied the allegation, insisting that the suspect fabricated lies against them.
The DC became infuriated and went to report the latest development to Owoseni.

The policemen were brought before Owoseni. Owoseni begged them to tell him the truth and bring out the money. Owoseni said if they told the truth and bring out the money; he would apologise to the suspect, hand over the money and forget the matter. But the policemen remained adamant in their denial.

The CP became confused and decided to question the suspect, turned complainant further. The driver stuck to his story. Determined to dig out the truth, Owoseni took over the investigation himself. He went to the bank and convinced the bank manager to play the bank’s CCTV recording.

Owoseni presented the recording to the policemen, but Okechukwu, even though he saw himself collecting and counting money in the screen, still said the image wasn’t him. Owoseni got angry and ordered that the men should go on orderly room trial. It was during the trial that they owned up to their crime and brought out the money.

The police source said: “While this was happening, the Area C Commander was not around.

The Acting Area Commander was called on the matter, and without thinking twice, started defending the men. He said they were innocent. The CCTV was played for him. The CP issued him query and later suspended him. The ASP and driver were pardoned.”

Last week Friday, their signal came out; the three of them were dismissed. The CP further instructed that they should be detained and charged to court for robbery. “The CP said they held gun, followed someone into banking hall to collect money. He said it was robbery,” the source told New Telegraph.

He added:

“There are allegations that Richard used to hunt suspected drug pushers and cyber fraudsters in Surulere and was always collecting money from them. It was also believed that he knows that particular suspect that led to his downfall. He was also described as a very rich man and terrorist to residents of Surulere. If they had brought out the money earlier, the CP would have pardoned them.”

Mirian Siqueria allegedly killed the baby during a horrifying attempt to steal 15-year-old Valissia Fernandes de Jesus’ child. The 25-year-old then dumped the dead foetus in a bathtub next to a bin before going on the run, police say.

Mirian’s husband Mateus found the teenager’s body inside a barrel in the couple’s back garden in Pitangueiras in the state of Sao Paulo.

Suspect Siquiera, who sold baby products, had told friends and family she was pregnant and met the murdered teenager at a photographic studio which was taking pictures of mums-to-be. She had invited Valissia round to her house on the pretext of showing her some baby shoes.

“Everyone was so happy at my sister being pregnant. She’d bought all the baby clothes.

“Now we want justice. We want this woman found and made to pay for what she did.”

The fugitive’s husband, who stumbled across the bodies after returning from a bar and claimed his wife admitted to stabbing Valissia during a row started by the teenager before fleeing, confirmed to a local TV station: “Mirian said she was pregnant. I have no idea where she is now.”

The crime, which happened on Wednesday, is currently being investigated as a homicide and foetal abduction.

Equatorial Guinea consul and wife shot by robbers

The Consul-General of Equatorial Guinea in Nigeria, Juan Mbomio, and his wife, Maria, escaped death by a whisker after running into a gang of armed robbers at the boundary between Rivers and Akwa Ibom states.
According to Punch, The duo, who are recuperating from injuries sustained in the encounter, were on their way from Port Harcourt, Rivers State, to Calabar in Cross River State, when the incident happened at about 8pm on Monday.

The consul-general’s Toyota Prado was sprayed with bullets, some of which pierced his neck and chest, while the wife sustained bullet injuries in her left knee.

A family friend, Nkoyo Richard, on Thursday said that the driver, Isaac Eyup, and a consular attaché, Innocencio gomo, as well as an unidentified police escort, were in the vehicle when the incident happened.

Richard said the consul-general and his wife were recuperating at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital after the bullets were removed from their bodies.

He said, “The incident happened between 7.45pm and 8pm on Monday, October 10, at the area between Rivers and Akwa Ibom states. The robbers started shooting as soon as they sighted the Jeep. The vehicle was riddled with bullets.

“The bullets touched the consul-general and his wife. He was injured in the neck and chest, while the wife was injured in the left knee. The robbers forced the vehicle to stop and dispossessed the couple of their belongings, including money and phones.
The robbers later fled and left the consul-general, his wife and others stranded because the tyres of the vehicle were punctured.
The consul-general and those with him managed to find their way to Calabar that night. They got to Calabar at about 12 midnight and immediately went to a hospital.”
A source at the consulate in Calabar frowned at the lack of concern shown by the Cross River State Government since the incident occurred.

She said the Federal Government had, through the foreign affair ministry and the Department of State Services, as well as the police, shown concern since the incident happened; but the host state, Cross River, did nothing despite being informed.

“We got calls from officials of the Federal Government, but no sign of concern from the Cross River State Government, where we have our major office. About 90 per cent of Nigerians going to Equatorial Guinea get their visas from the Calabar office. We are not happy that they did not show concern,” she said.
Chief Press Secretary to Governor Ben Ayade, Mr. Christian Ita, said he was not aware of the incident.

Also, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Irene Ugbo, said that the command was not officially informed about  the matter.

Spokesman Lai Mohammed gives detailed account of how the 21 released Chibok girls, gained freedom!

The Federal Government has said it did not swap Boko Haram prisoners in its custody to secure the release of 21 Chibok girls.

Minister of Information Alhaji Lai Mohammed made the disclosure at a World Press Conference to journalists.
He said, “Gentlemen of the press, good afternoon. We have called this press
conference at a very short notice to brief you on the latest development in the saga of the abducted Chibok Girls.
“We can confirm that 21 of the girls were released, safely, to us by 5.30 this Thursday morning and they were flown to Kaduna from the location of their release. This is the most glaring manifestation to
date of the unwavering commitment of Mr. President to secure the safe release of the girls and reunite them with their families. It is also a result of the round-the-clock efforts by the Administration to put a
closure to the sad issue of the kidnap of the girls.
“We expect the released girls to land in Abuja shortly. Ahead of their arrival, we have assembled a team of medical doctors, psychologists, social, workers trauma experts, etc to properly examine the girls, especially because they have been in captivity for so long. They will also be adequately debriefed. We have the list oft he 21 girls but we are now contacting their parents as part of the necessary verification exercise. As soon as that is concluded, we will release the names to the public.
“Gentlemen, as we have always said, we have been working on the safe release of the girls and following all the leads available. In this instance, the moment we had a credible lead, Mr President gave the green-light to the DSS to pursue it. We can confirm that the DSS pursued the lead in collaboration with a friendly European country and a renowned international humanitarian organization. The DSS was supported by the military.
“As soon as the necessary confidence was built on both sides, the parties agreed on the date and the location of the release of the 21 girls. Please note that this is not a swap. It is a release, the product of painstaking negotiations and trust on both sides.
“We see this as a credible first step in the eventual release of all the Chibok Girls in captivity. It is also a major step in confidence-building between us as a government and the Boko Haram leadership on the issue of the Chibok Girls.
“We want to thank all Nigerians for their support and for never losing confidence in the ability of Mr. President to secure the safe release of our Chibok Girls,” he concluded.
