'Young celebrity marriages don't last because of social media' - Joke Silva

Veteran Nollywood screen diva, Joke Silva, has disclosed why young marriages seem to be crashing lately. In her interview with News Telegraph, Joke revealed that most young marriages don't last because of social media. According to her, celebrities should learn to have some modicum of emotional privacy.

Here's what she said;

“It is because the younger generation are very popular because of social media, and so, whatever happens to them becomes news; forgetting that there are as many divorces, there as many separations in other professions such as medical, financial, legal among others. Name any profession; there are so many separations in those as well,” she told New Telegraph.
“There are a lot of challenges that are being faced by artistes of this particular generation; and one of those challenges is the social media, which almost doesn’t allow you your life. People of my age, when we were getting all the attention, and we were feeling like we were the best thing, things were different. You need all the attention anyway. For your work to sell, you need that popularity. It goes with the job, so you need that popularity. But after a while, you also get to learn that it can be a double edge sword. So, it is about managing it, appreciating the audience for appreciating your work, but also giving yourself that limit to what aspect of you they can experience.

“In this age of reality shows where nothing seems to be off limit, the new skill that the entertainer has to learn is how much do you give your audience? More so, because you don’t want to be false; like used to happen in the early years of Hollywood where they would create this incredible image, and then it was almost impossible for the performer to live under that image; and a lot of them used to use all kinds of medications just to fit a particular image that was being built around them. Now, we are in the age of social media, so it is learning how to cope with social media, to do the work that social media does, which is to get your work out there, to get your face out there. But then limit that too so that you do have a life; so that you can have some modicum of emotional privacy. Those are the challenges that I know that the younger generation face.''

Suspended NIA boss’ wife bought Ikoyi flat with $1.6m cash – EFCC

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Friday named Mrs. Folashade Oke as the owner of Flat 7B, No. 13, Osborne Road, Osborne Towers, Ikoyi, Lagos, where the sums of $43,449,947, £27,800 and N23, 218,000 were recently recovered by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

Mrs. Oke is the wife of the suspended Director General of the National Intelligence Agency, Amb. Ayo Oke, whose agency had laid claim to the money.

According to the EFCC, Mrs. Oke made a cash payment of $1.658m for the purchase of the flat between August 25 and September 3, 2015.

She was said to have purchased the property in the name of a company, Chobe Ventures Limited, to which she and her son, Master Ayodele Oke Junior, were directors.

Payment for the purchase of the flat was said to have been made to one Fine and Country Limited.

The EFCC stated that Mrs. Oke made the cash payment in tranches of $700,000, $650,000 and $353,700 to a Bureau de Change company, Sulah Petroleum and Gas Limited, which later converted the sums into N360,000,000 and subsequently paid it to Fine and Country Limited for the purchase of the property.

The EFCC on Friday tendered the receipt issued by Fine and Country Limited to Chobe Ventures Limited as an exhibit before the Federal High Court in Lagos, where it is seeking an order of final forfeiture of the recovered money to the Federal Government.

“The circumstances leading to the discovery of the huge sums stockpiled in Flat 7B, Osborne Towers leaves no one in doubt that the act was pursuant to an unlawful activity.

“The very act of making cash payment of $1.6m without going through any financial institution by Mrs. Folashade Oke for the acquisition of Flat 7B, Osborne Towers, is a criminal act punishable by the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Amendment Act. I refer My Lord to sections 1(a), 16(d) and 16(2)(b) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Amendment Act,” a counsel for the EFCC, Mr. Rotimi Oyedepo, told the court on Friday.

In an affidavit filed before the court, a Detective Inspector with the EFCC, Mohammed Chiroma, stated that “Chobe Ventures Limited is not into any business but was merely incorporated to retain proceeds of suspected unlawful activities of Mrs. Folashade Oke.”

While urging the presiding judge, Justice Muslim Hassan, to order the permanent forfeiture of the funds to the Federal Government, Oyedepo argued that the fact that Flat 7B, Osborne Towers was purchased in a criminal manner, made the N13bn recovered therein “extremely suspicious to be proceeds of unlawful acts.”

The lawyer noted that despite the newspaper advertisement of the initial order of April 13, 2017 temporarily forfeiting the money to the Federal Government, no one showed up in court on Friday to show cause why the money should not be permanently forfeited to the Federal Government.

Juliet Ibrahim Bash celebrities who mock domestic violence victims

Ghanaian Actress, Juliet Ibrahim has joined several others to speak up against domestic violence.
The actress and mother whose 4-years old marriage to Kwadwo Safo Katanka ended in 2014 also slammed celebrities who mock their fellow celebs when they are abused in their marriage. She wrote;

"Our value as women has been taken for granted due to domestic violence, egoism and male chauvinism. Never joke about domestic violence. Violence is never a choice anyone should make!! ‘Why Didn’t You Just Leave?’ A question we are all quick to ask but we should never be the judge until we hear Domestic Violence Survivors Explain Why It’s Never That Simple!!! 80% of women experience violence in relationships around the world and its growing rapidly; We need to speak up and lend our voices as much as we can to encourage these Victims to speak up early enough to avoid a nasty fate, keeping quiet and thinking that He/She will change is not the solution! Also; When a gun is present in a domestic violence situation, it increases the risk of homicide for women by 500 percent.
#domesticviolence shame unto every so-called celebrity that is actually tweeting and snapping while mocking any thing concerning another woman's well being that is out there in the news... don't forget Karma is a real bitch; be careful what you wish for others.
#sayNotodomesticviolence Thank God there are authorities in place nowadays to do the needful and deal with these maniacs! Violence is not an excuse and should never be a choice no matter what!"

Malaysian-based flamboyant Nigerian, HushPuppi shares his 'ghetto' story

Flamboyant Malaysia based Nigerian, Ray Hushpuppi in this very inspiring post, took us down memory lane on how a landlord chased his family out of the house because they couldn't pay their rent, how he shared shoes, toiletries and under wears with his younger ones, and what he went through just to leave the shores of Nigeria for a better future.
Hushpuppi is currently sending this from one of the world's favorite's places, Milano, Italy. Read his post after the cut...
"Letter to the Ghetto Kid:
As a man that I am today who developed from being one of you guys, who went through the same struggles you are presently going through, who had to run and jump hurdles where other kids just walk past the same situation in a better environment with better resources and much provisions, I know the society do not expect you to make it, the government don't care about your future, they toy and joke around making rules and laws that only affect you and benefit the rich. You lack everything it requires to become who you might have loved to be, do the things you would have loved to do or to live the life you may have seen on tv or the internet, which I know you even have limited access to because there's never power supply for such, which means you are deprived most of the things that can be learnt through tv and internet in the first place which makes your dreams smaller, quicker to fade away but I want you to know that darkness you are, without the dark, the stars won't shine and so you can shine out if that darkness.
You have been deprived so many right a child deserves and the world look down on you because you are nothing but a clot of blood miraculously turned a baby, and an unfortunate one at that. Good health, good foods or good education hasn't been in any way your chance to have. Looking at you disgusts not your brethren only but even strangers are not so impressed for your unhealthy appearance. Your strength; courage; and dreams are nothing but hallucination just because you were not supposed to dream big.
I am sure nobody ever believed in whatever you say or do. You have been victimized by neighbors; friends; and even family members who were supposed to give you hope.
This is my story, this is me and this is the hushpuppi you have been hearing about. The Ghetto kid in me is at Its peak and ready to explode and spread around the globe. I am you and you are me. I represent every under priviledge kid of the world and especially of Nigeria and of Lagos and of Bariga and of Oworonsoki -- Where a landlord had chased me and my family out of a rented room. I'll never forget the look on my mother's face trying to send me and my siblings to neighbors and relatives and the sadness in the eyes of my sibblings. Now, you see i represent you? Trust me I know how it feels to not have parents come watch you in school play football or run races in ur school, I know how it feels to come out your apartment to take showers in a zinc sheet bathroom separated from the building.
The society made me who i am today, i was never one of those who their parents couldn't afford a movie ticket to see a movie when Silver bird cinema came newly, I shared shoes, toiletries and underwears with my younger ones as well as mats and see me now at my early thirties, i am writing you a letter from one of the favourite places any human alive would have loved to be, billionaire or penniless.
Nobody is listening to your cries; your lamentation; and your grievances are not felt a bit. If i had sat down complaining about the bad government; bad economy ; bad friends, I will not be here today. I had a dream i was not supposed to cry, knowing nobody would listen, so i rose from the hood and decided to do the things my forefathers never did. I crossed the seas, walked through burning bushes, jumped over thorns and babbed wire. A lot of people know me from when I used to use okada to be selling "akube" clothes to boys that was making cheddars in diff hotels up and down the mainland of Lagos.
Look at yourself, do you like the way you are right now? Are you pushing beyond limits? Are you succumbing to the tune of the selfish 'Baba Alaye' in your neighborhood? Nobody will help you if you decide not to help yourself even hailing Hushpuppi 1,000 wouldn't help you either, be about you, get up, pick a struggle, leave your comfort zone, work hard at it, pray a lot and don't kiss ass, rich people are users and inconsiderate.
Dear hustling hood kid, let no man hold you down. My advice for you is never to put your dreams in the hands of Ambode and Buhari, they don't know you, they don't believe in you cos there's millions of people like you on their neck, it's not much they can do if they can even do anything at all so don't expect you will ever win or make it by waiting for anyone."

Police Hunt For 24-Year-Old Canadian Suspected Of Killing His Girlfriend

A disturbing confession has emerged on Reddit as police hunt for a 24-year-old Canadian man suspected of killing his girlfriend.

Ager Hasan fled to the US hours after he allegedly killed Melinda Vasilije, 22, his girlfriend of one year, in a stabbing attack at her Kitchener, Ontario home on April 28.

Since then, a Reddit post purportedly written by Hasan has surfaced. In it, the user Redasblue101 recalled pushing his girlfriend and grabbing a knife.

The post, which includes photographs of the couple and screenshots of their text exchanges, also read: 'The amount of regret and sadness is beyond words. Everyone else is just reading or talking about it. I lived it, I was there. I did it.'

Police are still trying to verify whether the Reddit post was written by Hasan.

Hasan is wanted for second-degree murder and three counts of breach of recognizance,

The breaches of recognizance refer to a 'domestic-related incident' on April 3, when Hasan was arrested for two counts of assault during a break-and-enter.

While Vasilije was not a victim in that incident, Hasan was restricted from her town of Kitchener and barred from contacting her, according to the police.

Weeks later, the 22-year-old was found dead around 3am on April 28 after police responded to a 911 call.

She suffered multiple stab wounds, and Hasan became a prime suspect.

But the 24-year-old had fled the country, and was last seen on April 28 stealing a license plate in the parking lot of a Walmart in Erie County, Pennsylvania, to replace the Ontario plate on his black, 2016 Honda.

Mercy Aigbe’s Husband To Appear In Court Today

Lanre Gentry, the estranged husband of Nollywood actress, Mercy Aigbe, will appear in court today, following a case of physical assault brought against him by the Lagos State Department of Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team, DSVRT.

A fight between the couple allegedly led to her bleeding, a situation which informed the decision of the actress to storm the office of the Lagos State Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation Commissioner, Mrs Lola Akande, on Tuesday, to report the matter.

Mrs Akande handed over the case to the state Ministry of Justice. The Commissioner said: “I must commend Mercy’s courage, because what she did is what other women who are victims of domestic violence out there need to do.

They don’t need to hide it, except they want to die.” On her part, Coordinator of DSVRT, Mrs. Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, said the order prevents Gentry from getting close to his wife until further notice, assuring that government would pursue the case to a logical conclusion.

Aigbe’s seven-year-old marriage crashed after photos of her battered face went viral on the Internet last weekend, as she accused her husband of physical assault.
