Botswana Becomes First African State To Announce It No Longer Recognises Yahya Jammeh As The Gambia's President

In a statement, Botswana's goverrnment said:

Mr Jammeh’s decision not to respect the will of the Gambian people undermines the ongoing efforts to consolidate democracy and good governance in The Gambia and Africa as a whole. This is also in direct contravention of the spirit and aspirations of the African Union Constitutive Act.

Robbery Captured Live On CCTV In Lagos

A robbery gang robbed a lady who just left the bank in Lagos. A friend shared the story:
This video is an incident of what happened to my colleague yesterday. N500K was taken from her locked car at Mobil Filling station, Agidingbi. She went to GTB, Alausa to withdraw N500K, and kept it under her car seat. When she drove out, she saw a car coming behind her, not knowing there were actually 2 cars following her. So when she got to FBN, Agidingbi, she indicated as if she was going back the way she came, so the car she saw following her passed her to go ahead of her to the side she indicated to, which is the Lexus jeep.

On seeing that the car had passed, she now decided to enter Mobil so that they could go completely, not knowing that another car was still behind her. She parked and went into Mr. Biggs to allow them to go, bought a bottle of water and before she came out, her door had been opened and her money stolen!
The CCTV in Mr Biggs captured the guys and how they operated. See the video...

Naval Staff Arrested For ‘Car Snatching’

A naval rating, Samuel Eze, has been nabbed for alleged car snatching in Edo State. Eze, 24, said he was serving with the Navy in Delta State.

He was paraded with a four-man robbery gang, which allegedly specialised in snatching cars and selling them in far away Abuja.

Eze claimed he did not belong to the gang but only helped them to escort a Hilux van to Abuja, after which he was given N100,000.

He said it was a colleague, Kanu Henry, who asked him to escort the vehicle to Abuja.

The suspect said: “I didn’t join the gang. I was on break when a colleague of mine called me to escort a vehicle to Abuja. I didn’t know it was a stolen vehicle. I got to Abuja before I knew it was a stolen vehicle. I just asked the Alhaji to give me my transport fare and I went back to Benin City.

“I could not go to the police because there was nothing I could do. My colleague negotiated the share and I was given N100,000. I came to Benin to collect uniform that was sent to me from Lagos. One of the boys called me and I went to see him, but I didn’t know police were with him. I earn N76,000 monthly. I’m not married. I blame my friend for this.”

One of the gang members, Elvis Friday, said he did not know how Eze was called to help the gang escort the vehicle to Abuja.

He said they were yet to share the money before they were nabbed.

His words: “I don’t know the naval rating. It was Peter who knows him. I don’t know how Peter negotiated with him. It was Peter that brought the guns we used in Makurdi.”

Police Commissioner Haliru Gwandu said the suspects would soon be charged to court.

Naval Officer Allegedly Beats His Wife To Death In Lagos... "my wife drank Sniper"

An official of the Western Naval Command, Apapa, Lagos, Omojoye Ayodele, has been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly killing his wife, Mary Egbailo.

Mr. Ayodele on Tuesday allegedly beat up the victim till she gave up the ghost at their house on Eze Anthony Street, in the Igando, Alimosho area of the state.

It was gathered that the 30-year-old man had gone to bring back the wife from the Cherubim and Seraphim Church in the area, where she was said to have been since Sunday.

Shortly after they got home, an argument reportedly ensued between them, which led to a fight.

The Ondo State indigene, allegedly beat his 29-year-old wife till she became weak and died.

She was said to have been rushed to El Dunamis Hospital, a private medical centre in the area, where she was confirmed dead.

An official of the hospital told Punch that Egbailo was confirmed dead while in a tricycle that brought her in company with her husband and two women.

The official said the husband claimed she took a local insecticide, Sniper.

He said, “She was brought around 11.30am in a tricycle. A man, who wore military uniform and claimed to be her husband, was screaming that she took Sniper insecticide.

“Doctors went to check her in the tricycle and it was discovered that she was dead. We immediately asked that she should be transferred to a general hospital. The husband was shouting to the hearing of everybody that she took Sniper.”

The wife would have been taken to her hometown for burial, but for the insistence of the landlady, who insisted that she did not take Sniper, but was a victim of domestic violence.

The case was said to have been reported at the Igando Police Division, leading to the arrest of Mr. Ayodele for allegedly beating the victim to death.

The landlady, who spoke with Punch on the condition of anonymity, alleged that Mr. Ayodele had been assaulting his wife since 2016.

She explained that on the morning of her death, Egbailo did not show any sign of depression.

She said, “The man complained that for the past three days, his wife had been away from the house and gone to a church.

“Around 10am on Tuesday, both of them entered into the house. I guess he had just gone to pick her from church.

“It was not up to three minutes that I started hearing noise. I went to their apartment and asked the man what the problem was, but he pushed me away and kept hitting her. He dragged her on the floor, among other things.”

She said she ran out to call for help when the beating was excessive.

The landlady claimed that as other residents approached the house to mediate, the suspect threw his wife into the gutter.

I begged her to wait outside till her husband calm down, but she said she wanted him to kill her,” the landlady added.

She explained that the victim entered the house again and was beaten up until she became weak.

“She could not walk, so I decided to take her to a hospital. But nobody was willing to help me. If we had a vehicle on time, we would have probably saved her life. We were in front of my shop for about one hour, without any help.

She was still talking to me before she passed out. The last request she made was that she needed palm oil,” she said.

She said after the victim passed out, a tricycle was brought, which then conveyed her to El Dunamis Hospital, where she was confirmed dead by doctors.

She said she decided to report the case to the police to prevent the husband from escaping justice.

The landlady described her as gentle, saying for the past four years that she lived in the house, she never had a quarrel with her.

It was gathered that in 2011, the couple had a child together, named Israel.

Efforts to have another child were said to have been abortive. The issue was reported to have been responsible for the tension in the family.

The landlady threatened to eject him from the house for allegedly hitting her during the scuffle which led to the death of his wife.

Another woman's story

A close friend of the deceased, who did not identify herself, said the late wife did not give her any impression that she was being assaulted by her husband.

She said the husband told her that Egbailo had been abducted since Sunday when she went to church and was returned by the captors who discovered she was not useful for their money ritual.

She said, “The man said on that Tuesday, they had an argument after which she threatened to kill herself. The man said he joked with her that if she wanted to kill herself she should go aheadHe said in a jiffy, she had taken a bottle of Sniper and drank it. He rushed to my shop to call me that his wife was dying.

“We rushed her to the hospital where she died. It was later I was told she had been a victim of domestic abuseShe had never opened her mouth to tell me anything like that.”

Nigerian Navy's perspective

The spokesperson for the Western Naval Command, Apapa, Lt. Commander Chinwe Umar, said Egbailo committed suicide.

“From the information available to me, the woman in question allegedly drank Sniper,” she said.

Nigeria Police
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, said the corpse had been deposited in a mortuary for autopsy.

She said, “We received a report that a naval rating fought his wife and she slumped and was rushed to El Dunamis Hospital, where the doctors confirmed her dead. The corpse was deposited in the Mainland General Hospital mortuary for autopsy. The case is under investigation.”

Commissioner’s Driver Remanded For Beating FRSC Officials

A driver attached to the Cross River State Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Calistus Okune, was on Wednesday remanded in the Afokang Prison in Calabar for assaulting two officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps.

Okune was alleged to have acted on orders of his boss, Mr. Peter Egba, after the Toyota Corolla that he was driving was impounded for several offences, including driving without using seat belt and use of fake government number plate.

The incident was said to have happened in front of a magistrate, who presided over cases of traffic offences, during a mobile court session facilitated by the FRSC.

While one of the affected FRSC officials was beaten up and had his uniforms torn by the aggrieved driver, the other had a deep cut in his head.

One of the assaulted FRSC officials, Fidelis Eteng, who spoke with Punch Metro, said trouble started after he had impounded the vehicle for the offences.

According to him, the commissioner rushed to the scene shortly after the vehicle was impounded and in the course of argument, he (commissioner) gave an order to the driver and others to “deal with” those responsible for the seizure.

He said, “We stopped the vehicle first when we noticed that he (Okune) was driving without using a seat belt. Later, we had to impound it on discovering that it bore a fake government number plate. The driver also had no driving licence. We immediately took the car to the mobile court arena where he was booked.

“Shortly afterwards, the commissioner came and started ranting.

“He said he was going to ensure that those involved would be sacked. It was while the argument was on that he ordered Okune to assault me. The commissioner himself later joined in the beating and also used stone to injure a colleague in the head.”

Angered by the disregard for judicial authority on duty, the sitting magistrate, Dorothy Duke, ordered that the driver be remanded in Afokang Prison until February 3, when the case would be heard.

Officials at the state Ministry of Justice were said to be angered by the development as the wife of the commissioner, who is a cousin to the magistrate, was said to have appeared on the scene and also confronted the magistrate.

The state Sector Commander, Mr. Ikechukwu Igwe, who condemned the action, said he had notified the Ministry of Justice and the Commissioner of Police of the development.

Igwe also showed Punch Metro letters already written to the state government over the flagrant use of fake government number plates on private vehicles owned by top officials.

Egba, however, denied giving order to his driver to assault any FRSC official.

“I went to the scene immediately because my little boy was in the vehicle. I was polite when I approached them; but before I knew it, they started pointing their fingers into my eyes and it was at that point that my driver intervened and a fight broke out. They actually tried to beat me up,” he said.

Woman brutally stabs son to death for being gay

A Brazilian mother stabbed her 17-year-old son to death because he was gay after two thugs she hired to kill him failed to do so.
Tatiana Lozano Pereira, 32, admitted to killing her son Itaberli Lozano in Cravinhos, Sao Paulo.

According to local reports, Pereira had long rejected her son because he was gay.

They had an explosive row at Christmas after which Itaberli moved in with his grandmother.
Pereira pretended to forgive him and, on December 29, urged him to return home.

However she had secretly hired hitmen Miller da Silva Barissa, 18, and Victor Roberto da Silva, 19,
to kill her son. She hid them inside her home under orders to attack him when he entered.

However they failed to kill him and so she grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed her son to death.

According to local reports, Pereira and her husband, Alex Pereira, 30, the victim's stepfather, then took her son's body to an abandoned area and burned it.
The victim's paternal grandmother reported his disappearance to police.

Authorities said the mother confessed to the killing during a police interrogation.
She also implicated the hired thugs for their part but maintained her husband was innocent. Police said he would only be charged over concealment of the body.

Dario Rosa, the victim's uncle, told police Itaberli had always been rejected by his mother because he was gay. He said:

'He had a job, he was very polite, [and] he never quarreled with anyone. He only had problems with his mother, who did not accept that he was a homosexual.'
'A mother has to love her son, not kill [them]. [This] family is torn, [and] it will be difficult to recover.'
Tatiana was sent to a women's prison in Cajuru, while the three men were transferred to a jail in Santa Rosa de Viterbo. They are being kept in prison while the investigation continues.
