Ghanaian Stabs Nigerian Prostitute To Death

A Nigerian sex worker, identified simply as Tina, has been stabbed to death by a client who accused her of stealing his money.

Tina, who resides in Ghana, was murdered by a 34-year-old man, Isaac Sackey, for allegedly stealing GH¢120 after he had sex with her.

According to reports from the West African country, Sackey handed himself over to the police after stabbing Tina in the stomach and thigh.

Sackey was said to have approached Tina for sex at a drinking spot in Accra, where he had gone to have drinks with his male friends. The two were said to have agreed on a fee for the service before heading to Sackey’s house where they spent the night.

Narrating the circumstances leading to Tina’s death, Sackey told the Accra Regional Police

Command that he had gone to the bathroom to freshen up at about 2am, leaving the woman in the bedroom. He claimed that when he returned he saw the Nigerian going through his belongings and realised that GH¢120 cash had been stolen.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mrs Effia Tenge, said that Sackey told the police that he immediately accused the woman of stealing the money but she denied it.

She said, “The suspect lives in a single room in some compound house at Spintex.

“In the course of the confrontation, the lady took a kitchen knife from the man’s room and threatened to stab him. But the man overpowered the lady and incidentally stabbed her after he managed to take back the knife from the lady.”

Tenge said Sackey locked his room and then went to the Psychiatric Hospital to report the issue where he was directed by the hospital authorities to report himself to the police.

She said police officers went to Sackey’s apartment where the body of the victim was found lying in a pool of blood. A careful assessment of the body by the police, she said, revealed that the victim had a knife wound in the stomach and on the thigh, indicating that she had been stabbed twice.

The body has since been deposited at the Police Hospital morgue for preservation.

The deceased is yet to be identified by the family since the suspect claimed it was the first time they had met at the drinking spot.

Some neighbours of the suspect claimed he had a mental disorder, but the police are yet to verify that information.

South Korean President Sacked By Court

South Korea's top court has ruled to formally end impeached President Park Geun-hye's rule. Eight judges from the Constitutional Court assembled on Friday to issue a verdict to remove Park from office over a corruption scandal.

The ruling sparked protests from hundreds of her supporters, two of whom were killed in clashes with police outside the court.

It marks the first time a South Korean president has been ousted before the end of their term since democracy replaced dictatorship in the late 1980s.

Park's action had "seriously impaired the spirit of ... democracy and the rule of law," said constitutional court chief justice Lee Jung-Mi. "President Park Geun-hye ... has been dismissed."

Election law now requires a snap poll to be held within 60 days.

In anticipation of the ruling, Park supporters, many of them dressed in army-style fatigues and wearing red berets, and those who want Park gone began showing up around the Constitutional Court building in downtown Seoul.

A big television screen was set up near the court so that people could watch the verdict live. Hundreds of police also began preparing for the protests, putting on helmets with visors and black, hard plastic breastplates and shin guards.

Park, 65, has been accused of colluding with a friend, Choi Soon-sil, and a former presidential aide, both of whom have been on trial, to pressure big businesses to donate to two foundations set up to back her policy initiatives.

Fake Soldiers Storm Meeting; Beat Lawyer and Client

Two fake soldiers have been arrested by the police for impersonating men of the Nigerian Army and allegedly beating up a lawyer, Paul Onyilo, and his client, Solomon Chima.

One Gilbert had reportedly led the suspects, Adebayo Olanrewaju, Joseph Daniel, and their fleeing accomplice, who was in a Nigerian Navy uniform, to a restaurant at Sharp Corner, Agbado, Ogun State, where the victims were holding a meeting.

It was learnt that Chima had bought some gallons of paint worth about N60,000 from Gilbert sometime in October 2016, owing the trader N1,000 balance.

Chima, however, declined to pay the balance after the person who painted the apartment, told him that Gilbert did not deliver all the paint. Gilbert was said to have refuted the claim.

It was learnt that the lawyer, Chima and his wife were in the restaurant at about 9pm on Sunday for a meeting on a landed property when Gilbert and the suspects in military camouflage stormed the facility and descended on Chima.

The lawyer said his attempt to pacify the men was met with stiff resistance and aggression as they rained blows on him.

He said, “I was at the restaurant with my client and his wife to discuss a deal. We were waiting for someone when he received a call from a man (Gilbert), asking him where he was.

“A few minutes after, another person called him, threatening that they would catch him wherever he was. He was frightened and I asked him what happened. He explained to me that he was owing Gilbert N1,000. He said Gilbert was also supposed to give him three tins of paint. I decided to alert the Agbado Police Station to the imminent violence.

“The moment I finished sending the distress call, Gilbert and three other men – two in army uniform and one dressed in Nigerian Navy uniform – barged into the restaurant. Gilbert ordered them to beat Solomon (Chima). I tried to calm them. They beat me up, dragged me on the floor, tore my shirt and poured alcohol on my head.”

Operatives from the station, led by the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Shittu Abioye, raced to the scene and arrested Gilbert and the fake soldiers at a nearby bar, where they had fled to. But, the fourth suspect, identified only as Charles, escaped.

It was gathered that several uniforms and a mask, among others, were recovered from Olanrewaju’s residence by the police.

Thirty-year-old Olanrewaju, an indigene of Abeokuta, Ogun State, who said he was dismissed from the Nigerian Army in 2013, denied partaking in the assault.

He said, “I was at Abule Egba (Lagos State) on Sunday, when Joseph (Daniel) called me on the telephone. He said he wanted to visit his in-law and that I should follow him. As we got there, the in-law (Gilbert) received a call and he exchanged words with the person. He told us that a man he supplied paint to was owing him N1,000 and insulting him.

“We asked him to let us go and caution the man. On getting to his house, we didn’t meet him. We went to the restaurant. Charles started beating the lawyer and I cautioned him. I took the two parties to another bar to settle the matter. I have never committed any crime with my uniform. I use the mask to prevent cold when I ride a motorcycle.”

Daniel, who hails from Enugu State, stated that he got the uniform from Olanrewaju, adding that Charles was a naval officer.

“I wore the uniform to avoid being harassed by security agents. I regretted my action. It was Charles that beat them,” he said.

The Ogun State Police Public Relations, ASP Abimbola Oyeyemi, who confirmed the arrest, said the case would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation and prosecution.

For challenging a police officer, who reportedly urinated on a truck, Alhaji Dan Jos, a truck owner, was shot dead, yesterday, at Tin Can Island Port, bringing operations to a halt as his colleagues began a protest.
According to an eyewitness, Kabiru Alaba, the yet-to-be identified police officer, attached to the RORO Division, shot Dan Jos for challenging his colleague who urinated on a truck parked in the premises. He added that the offending policeman called a colleague from the RORO Division, who attacked Jos without finding out what happened.

According to Alaba, “the police officer was urinating on one of our trucks when Alhaji challenged him. It later led to an altercation and he called his colleague from the division, who came and shot Alhaji in his thigh.”

The incident led to demonstration by members of the Road Transport Employee Association of Nigeria, RTEAN, who took to the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway in protest. Sensing that the protest might degenerate further, the said police officer reportedly shot sporadically into the air, making protesters scamper for safety.

Confirming the incident to Vanguard, the RTEAN Chairman, Tin Can Island chapter, Isiaka Olalere, said: “I have just been told that one of my members was shot dead by a police officer. I am going there to put everything under control.”

When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of the Maritime Command, ASP Sadik Olatunde, said he was not aware of the crisis at the port, adding “I will get across to the DPO at the Command to put everything under control.”

Fashola Replies Ambode Over "Frustrating Lagos" Allegation

The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, on Thursday declared that his ministry was not in any way frustrating Lagos State Government with respect to the reconstruction of the Lagos International Airport Road from Oshodi.

The Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwumi Ambode, on Wednesday said the Federal Ministry of Works was frustrating efforts by his government to reconstruct the road.
Fashola said it was important for his ministry to respond in order to ensure that members of the public were not misled.

The minister stated that his ministry had approved several requests made by the state government, adding that the governor failed to acknowledge that he spoke with the minister who explained ongoing processes to him.

The minister also stated that the state government had refused to provide land for the National Housing Programme.

Fashola, who spoke through his Special Adviser on Communications, Mr. Hakeem Bello, stated that the allegations of lack of cooperation from the ministry and frustration of the state government’s development initiatives were not true.

In a statement issued by Fashola’s aide, the former Lagos State governor said, “In 2016, the minister approved the use of the Federal Ministry of Works yard at Oworonsoki for Lagos State Government to create a lay-by to ease traffic.

“The minister also approved that Lagos State be granted the right to manage the street lighting on the Third Mainland Bridge to support the security initiatives of the state, a request which the previous Federal Government administration had denied the Lagos State Government for years.”

The statement further noted that during the same year, Fashola had supported the approval of the World Bank loan of $200m to Lagos, adding that the previous administration had denied Lagos this request.

It added, “As far as International Airport Road, which is currently the ground for alleged ‘frustration’ is concerned, the correct position is that the Lagos State Government presented a request for four roads that it would wish to take over.

“This is consistent with the position being canvassed by the minister for states that are interested to apply to take over roads that are within their states. The ministry has presented the memorandum conveying the request of the Lagos State Government to the Federal Executive Council as was done with a similar request by the Kaduna State Government in 2016.”

It stated that due to the fact that two of the roads also connect Ogun State, FEC could not reach an immediate decision on them because it requested the input of the other state government affected.

On the Presidential Lodge and statements against the works ministry by Ambode, he said as far as the lodge was concerned, it was under the management of the Presidency and not the ministry.
Fashola added, “After the approval by Mr. President that the Presidential Lodge be handed over to the state government, there was a directive to the ministry to work out the modalities for handing over. The ministry has prepared a vesting instrument to convey the transfer and all that is needed is a survey plan. The Presidential Lodge is a high security location and officials of the ministry also require security clearance to enter in order to do any work. Access to the lodge is not under the control of the ministry.”

‘I Inserted 386 Grammes Of Cocaine In My Anus For N1m’

A 53-year-old shoe merchant, Lekwauwa Mark Otaka, who was arrested at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, few hours to its closure, Wednesday, has disclosed that he inserted 386 grammes of cocaine into his anus over a promise of N1 million to traffic the drugs to Cambodia.

Arrested alongside the father of three was 57-year-old Odogwu Augustine Ike, an automobile dealer in Onitsha, Anambra State.

Ike was arrested with 2.150kg of heroin from Tanzania. The agency’s Commander at the Abuja Airport, Hamisu Lawan, explained that the duo tested positive for narcotic ingestion during routine screening.

According to him, “Odogwu Augustine Ike was caught with 110 wraps of heroin weighing 2.150kg from Tanzania on an Ethiopian Airline flight, while Otaka was found to have inserted seven wraps of cocaine weighing 386 grammes into his anus on an Egypt Airline flight to Cambodia. Both suspects are currently under investigation.”

‘I was afraid of swallowing’

During interrogation, Otaka, an Aba-based shoe merchant, said: “I was afraid of swallowing the drugs so I chose the insertion method. I inserted 386 grammes of cocaine into my anus in my desperation to get N1 million promised.”

On his part, Ike, said to have excreted 110 wraps of heroin, revealed that he was promised N600,000 to smuggle the drug. The father of four, who hails from Anambra State, blamed his action on financial hardship.

Commenting on the arrest, the Chairman/Chief Executive of the agency, Col. Muhammad Abdallah (rtd.) assured on strict narcotics screening at the alternative Kaduna Airport.

This, he said, would help in preventing illicit movement of narcotics by drug cartels, informing that the Agency had taken measures at ensuring comprehensive examination of passengers and goods at the Kaduna Airport.

Apostle Suleman demands N1bn from Keyamo

General Overseer of Omega Fire Ministries Worldwide, Apostle Johnson Suleman, has demanded that a legal practitioner, Festus Keyamo, should retract all publications, and an apology to be published on major social media networks.

He also demanded N1bn over alleged blackmail and injuries inflicted on him, including online clips, during his alleged amorous affair with a Canada-based stripper, Stephanie Otobo.

Should he fail to comply with the demand, what will happen?

The pastor threatened to drag Keyamo to Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee “for infamous conduct.”

Stephanie had alleged that she suffered emotional stress from Suleman, after their sour relationship including a promise of marriage.

But Suleman, in a letter by his counsel, Osa Director, obtained on Thursday in Abuja, entitled: “Allegation of professional misconduct and unethical practices”, said Keyamo’s action was inconsistent with Section 1 of the Rules of Professional Conduct For Legal Practitioners 2007.

He said, “Sequel to our letter to you dated March 6, 2017, we have observed with shock and dismay your deliberate and relentless efforts to malign and convict our client through media trial. By your relentless media campaign, you are conducting yourself in a manner inconsistent with Section 1 of the Rules of Professional Conduct For Legal Practitioners 2007.”

According to him, instead of gathering facts and evidence before a court of competent jurisdiction for adjudication, Keyamo resorted to alleged blackmail and intimidation through the media, both traditional and social media.

“In short, you have threatened and indeed executed your threat of conjuring, manufacturing and synthesising bogus and unverifiable exhibits in the social media and newspapers, all with a view to poison public opinion against our client and reduce his esteem and reputation in the eye of any reasonable man. Your attitude is also to ambush a fair trial while litigation is anticipated. This is contrary to S.33 of the Rules of Professional Conduct For Legal Practitioners 2007.”

Director quoted a recent Newspaper report in which Keyamo threatened to “release more bullets”, while Otobo under his supervision would be organising a world press conference and “we will begin to release bullets.”

He said, “Furthermore, you grossly and recklessly maligned our client, saying, “these men of God are not what they claim to be, we have a duty to protect the public. Many of them are fake and fraudsters. You will see the video very soon in the next few minutes.” True to your threat of trial publicity stunts, the video clips have flooded the social media networks.

“We believe your conduct is inconsistent with the virtues and rules of conduct of the legal profession. It smacks of indiscipline and disdain for the judicial process. Therefore, we demand a retraction of all your press statements and an apology to be published on the major social media networks.

“Also, we demand a compensation of N1bn for all the injuries inflicted on our client. We expect you to meet our demands within seven days from the date above written. Take notice that we shall drag you before the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee for the infamous conduct if you fail to so do.”
