Police locate body of controversial phone thief burnt to death in a Lagos canal

The Lagos State Police Command has located the charred remains of a robbery suspect who was burnt to death by a mob in the Orile area of the state.

Tthe state Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, said the suspect was believed to be between 20 and 25 years old, and not a seven-year-old boy lynched over garri, which went viral on the social media.

Owoseni, who noted that the lynching occurred around 4pm penultimate Saturday, said the police had contacted an emergency agency of the state government to remove the corpse.

The CP said it was wrong to put the blame on the police, as some members of the gang had been previously arrested, arraigned in court, but released on bail. He added that members of the public should join hands to fight the menace of jungle justice.

He said,

“In the course of the police investigation, it was discovered that the fellow that was lynched in the video was an adult. The police found his decomposing body in a canal somewhere in the Orile area. He was an adult of between 20 and 25 years.

The state emergency management agency was contacted to remove the corpse. Our inquiries revealed that he and two members of his gang had attacked a victim with a machete in order to snatch his wallet and mobile phone.

"It was also found out that his gang members had been operating in the area for a while. Some of the gang members had, at one time or the other, been arraigned in court and through the judicial process of securing bail, found themselves out again.

""During this particular incident, the mob collected the machete from the suspect and attacked him. In as much as we condemn all acts of impunity and people taking laws into their hands, you will agree that what happened was a societal problem.

"It would not be charitable to put the blame on the police. It is a menace that all of us should fight. The police will continue to make arrests when crimes are committed," he said.

Ronaldo Visit Disneyland With New Girlfriend

He was given a hero’s welcome after returning to his native Portugal for a triumphant Champions League tie against former club Sporting Lisbon on Tuesday evening.

But Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo’s short lived trip to his homeland came via Paris, where he had good company in the form of his stunning new girlfriend.

The celebrated midfielder, 31, was joined by brunette Georgina Rodriguez for an incognito appearance at Disneyland Paris, where they easily mingled with tourists while strolling across the sprawling entertainment resort.

The usually flamboyant Ronaldo looked markedly different in a shapeless winter coat, the hood of which remained tightly pulled over what appeared to be significantly longer hair - prompting speculation that the sportsman had elected to wear a wig in a bid to go unrecognized.

A baseball cap and heavily tinted sunglasses completed his low key look as he strolled arm in arm with his latest girlfriend.
The footballer has been single following a recent split with former Miss Spain Desirée Cordero Ferrer, but appeared to have moved on seamlessly with Georgina during his latest public appearance.

Man stumbles upon $3.7 million in gold hidden in deceased family member’s home(Photo)

A French man is elated after discovering the house he inherited from a deceased relative in Normandy was used to hide $3.7 million dollars' worth of gold.

It was when the home’s new owner began to move around furniture that he uncovered the stash — a box of coins attached to the underside of an item of furniture.
The hunt for gold continued when the heir began finding larger amounts of gold in other storage locations of the estate.

“It was under the furniture, under piles of linen, in the bathroom ... everywhere,” a local auctioneer Nicolas Fierfort told Agence France-Presse about the gold. Fierfort admitted to missing the treasure himself upon a visit to appraise furniture within the house.
“It was extremely well hidden,” he said in the report.

Eventually, a massive pile of 23-pound gold bars stared the new homeowner in the face.

The gold, after the examination of experts, was dated back to the 1950s and 1960s when the man’s wealthy relative had bought the precious metal.

Treasure hunters believe they've found legendary Nazi gold.Certificates of the gold’s authenticity were also found in the deceased’s estate.

The heir, though liable to a 45% inheritance tax, has already sold the gold to various international buyers.

HIV positive man who had unprotected sex with over 100 women jailed with hard labour

An HIV-positive Malawian man has been sentenced to 24 months in jail with hard labour, after being found guilty for having unprotected sex in traditional 'cleansing' rituals

Malawi's President Peter Mutharika had ordered the arrest of Eric Aniva, a sex worker known locally as a "hyena", after he admitted in a BBC interview to having sex with more than 100 women and underage girls and not disclosing his HIV status.

“I convict you to serve 24 months’ imprisonment,” judge Innocent Nebi told Aniva in a packed courtroom in the remote southern district of Nsanje.

On Friday, in the first case of its kind, Aniva was found guilty on two charges after a one-day trial.

His lawyer, Michael Goba Chipeta, said Aniva would appeal against the conviction and the sentence.

Custom in some parts of southern Malawi demands that a man, known as a “hyena”, is paid to have sex with bereaved widows to exorcise evil spirits and to prevent other deaths occurring.

At the request of a girl’s parents, the “hyena” is also paid to have sex with adolescent girls to mark their passage to womanhood after their first menstruation.

The practice of "widow cleansing", when a widow must have sex after her husband dies, was outlawed a few years ago.

Aniva was the subject of a BBC feature into various sexual cleansing practices in Malawi.

The president had wanted him tried for defiling young girls, but none came forward to testify against him.

Instead Aniva was tried for "harmful cultural practice" under section five of Malawi's Gender Equality Act for having sex with new widows.

Aniva, who pleaded not guilty, told AFP immediately after the sentence: “I am disappointed because I thought I would be given a suspended sentence.”
