A former Tidal employee is suing the streaming company for sex and pregnancy discrimination, after she was allegedly fired for requesting the use of a private room to use her breast pump.
The new mother, Lisette Paulson’s suit alleges that in 2015, Desiree Perez , the head of Tidal, denied her request for a private room, telling her to use the bathroom instead. Perez allegedly asked Paulson if pumping was necessary and grew frustrated when she insisted on a private space as she couldn’t use a bathroom. Paulson says that Perez told her they would have a meeting to discuss the matter, however a day after the meeting, She was fired.
Lisette Paulson claims that she initially worked as a consultant for Tidal, but was offered a full-time job in 2015 after she gave birth to her child.
In her lawsuit, she states that Tidal violated the Fair Labor Standards Act, as well as New York state employment laws. She is seeking unspecified damages and as well as alleging sex and pregnancy discrimination, is suing for intentional infliction of emotional distress and breach of oral contract.
