Mavado accused of blasphemy after portraying himself as God

Jamaican Dance Hall singer Mavado has been called by most of christian fans who accused him of blasphemy after the singer portrayed himself as God in a photo he posted on his social media timeline.

The Gully Gad, aka Mavado, posted a photo of himself on his Instagram profile on Sunday where he likens himself to a god.

Sources however mentioned that the image is the cover art for an upcoming project from the dancehall singer.

But it’s his Christian fans whom he angered the most with the photo.

“Mavado I am a huge fan but this pic right here don’t sit well with me as a God-fearing woman, please take it down, we don’t do the mockery thing around here,” one female fan wrote.

Another added:

“You wrong bro never you come pair yourself to God, only time will tell all of you who are defending this.”

While the Gully Gad has been getting a lot of flocking from some fans, a lot of his more hardened supporters were there to defend him.

“You guys should go get a life and leave Vado along, no where did he said he was Jesus, he just posted the image, and this is the image you guys think is God give me a break,” one fan wrote.

Some of Mavado’s celebrity friends like Skatta Burrell, a known atheist, defended the singer.

“Satan doesn’t exist. Answering to all our sins means taking responsibility for our own actions and stop blaming demons. We are responsible for ourselves and no man is gonna appear from the sky and save us.

Live your life and be good to each other, be respectful to nature and eat right. It’s simple, you don’t need a rule book to have good morals.

Folks in places on this earth are living quite peaceful and ok and they have never heard anything about any religion.”

Back in 2013, a painting of Vybz Kartel portraying him as a God-like figure angered some dancehall fans. Like Vado, the incarcerated deejay also found himself at the receiving end of a heavy backlash.

How Lagos pepper seller allegedly died in police custody

A Lagos pepper seller, Mrs Basirat Akinmushire, who was arrested by the police in Lagos over an alleged involvement with a robbery gang has died while in police custody and the family are calling for an investigation into her death.

They said the 54-year-old, who was arrested at a market on Isolo Housing Estate, Isolo, was hale and hearty until the police called to inform them that she had died.

According to Punch Metro, a rights group, Network for Police Reforms in Nigeria, had written the Police Service Commission on behalf of the family, alleging that the suspect was extra-judicially murdered.

A man, Olatunde Adetunji, had earlier been arrested by the police team in the Ikeja area for alleged robbery and cultism.

Adetunji, an alleged member of the Eiye Confraternity, was said to have claimed that Basirat, aka Area Mama, kept the gang’s weapons.

The 31-year-old allegedly said they usually paid her N5,000 after every successful operation.

The pepper seller, who was subsequently arrested, was said to have told the police that she was coerced into keeping the guns used by the gang.

She allegedly confessed to have transferred two guns belonging to the gang to one Junior, aka Jungle.

Basirat, according to a statement she allegedly made to the police, said the gang threatened to kill her if she leaked their secret.

The police had claimed that the woman, while leading detectives to Junior’s hideout, attempted to escape and fell into a ditch where she got injured.

The deceased’s younger brother, Babajide Lateef, while denying the allegation of arms keeping, said the mother of three was arrested on September 13.

He said:

“Since that Thursday that she was arrested, we started going to their office in Ikeja, but we were prevented from seeing her. This was ongoing when we read it in the newspapers that she was attempting to escape when she fell into a ditch.

“On Friday, September 28, the police called us and announced that she was dead. On October 2, we were taken to a morgue to see her corpse. We were told that it was when she was running away that she fell and she was taken to a hospital, where she was admitted to until her death.

“She was not the kind of woman that would keep guns for robbers. She was a gentle woman and did not make trouble with people. I am not saying this because I am a family member; ask from her church members and co-tenants and everybody will testify to her good character.“Initially, we decided to take her corpse for burial after we were asked to write a letter for the release of her corpse; we had called a lawyer who drafted a letter for us. But when we were told to swear to an affidavit that after the body was released to us we would not make any trouble, we consulted some lawyers who advised against it because the police could use it against us and arrest family members.

“At this point, what we want is the help of the government to unravel the cause of her death and the reason for the affidavit.”

Lateef lamented the effect of the death on the deceased’s husband, a retired head teacher.

He said the widower, Samuel Akinmushire, was admitted to a hospital for three days and had suffered depression.

The National Coordinator of NOPRIN, Okechukwu Nwanguma, in a letter to the Chairman of the PSC, asked that an autopsy be conducted on the corpse.

“The police claimed to have carried out an autopsy, but the family did not know when and where this happened. The family demands a thorough and impartial investigation to unravel the actual cause of death. As part of this investigation, the family demands a transparent autopsy where the family medical and legal representatives will be present.

“NOPRIN calls on the PSC to ensure a prompt, impartial and thorough investigation into the cause of death and that necessary actions should be taken against any officer involved if a case of extrajudicial killing is established,” he said.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Chike Oti, said there was no foul play in the death.

“The police were investigating a very serious case of armed robbery and gunrunning. Along the line, the woman became a suspect in the case. She was arrested on the suspicion that she was the gang’s armourer and she admitted to the crime.

“She mentioned the name of another suspect whom she claimed had some of the guns. She was taking police operatives to the place when she suddenly jumped out of vehicle and started running. They chased her and she fell and broke her leg.

“She was taken to the Police College Cottage Hospital, Ikeja, from where she was referred to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja, for better treatment. LASUTH further referred her to the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Igbobi. Days later, the woman died at the hospital.”

Oti explained that the affidavit demanded by the police was only a requirement by law to ensure the deceased’s family did not return to deny receiving the corpse.

A 35-year-old man, who was arrested for sleeping with his teenage daughter for two years, has blamed it on his inability to have a child with his wife. .
Vanguardngr reports that the suspect, Michael Igbaniba, was arrested after his 15-year-old Junior Secondary School 2 daughter reported the matter at the Iso Koko Police Division in Agege, Lagos, over the weekend. .

It was gathered that the suspect had the child out of wedlock. He, however, went to pick her from her mother after getting married to another woman without having any more children, on the advice of his friends and relatives. .

Barely had she settled in her new home located on 222 Olaniyi Street, New Oko-Oba in Abule-Egba, than her father started sleeping with her. According to her, “initially, he said he would stop paying my school fees if I refused to sleep with him or if I told anyone. .

I reluctantly allowed him because of my love for education, until I could not bear it anymore and also because I was ashamed to reveal it to anybody because he is my father.”

The victim was discovered to have been pregnant at a point but the pregnancy aborted with the assistance of her father. She was said to have reported the issue of the abortion to her church Pastor, but was stopped from going to church by her father. .

During interrogation, the suspect admitted to the crime, saying: “I did it because I wanted more children. I was advised by friends to bring her to live with me and my wife, because of our inability to have a child since we got married

By the time she came to live with us, my wife still did not get pregnant. The same friends advised me to sleep with my daughter, that my wife would get pregnant in the process

Doctors find 122 nails in a man’s stomach

Ethiopian doctors found over a hundred iron nails in a man’s stomach in the capital Addis Ababa at the weekend. Other sharp objects were also extracted from the stomach of the patient.

Dawit Teare, a surgeon at St. Peter’s Specialised Hospital, said the 33-year-old patient suffers from mental illness and had apparently consumed the items, including 122 four inch (10 centimetre) nails, four pins, a toothpick and pieces of broken glass.

“The patient has been suffering from mental illness for the last 10 years and had stopped taking his medication two years ago, one probable reason he started consuming inanimate objects,” Dawit told AFP after the two-and-a-half hour operation.
“I’m guessing he consumed the objects with the help of water, however he is a lucky person that those sharp objects didn’t cut his stomach. That could have led to serious infections and even death,” he said.

The surgeon said that while he had dealt with other cases in which people with mental illness had swallowed multiple sharp objects, he had never encountered a case on this scale.

Dawit added that the patient was recovering well after the surgery and he will be monitored to ensure that he continues his medication.

Female leader of notorious kidnap gang, arrested

The police have arrested Hawa Yinusa, alongside two members of her gang, over allegations of kidnapping and murder.A Police statement issued on Sunday by acting DCP Jimoh Moshood, Force Public Relations Officer, named the other two suspects as Nura Dahiru, also known as ‘Ula’, and Buhari Hamisu, also known as ‘Wiseman’. .

Exhibis found in their possession were three AK47 rifles, 38 rounds of AK47 ammunition, one Honda Hennessey car belonging to a victim and one cutlass. The victim’s car was originally ash colour but was changed by the suspect to navy blue. .

The statement read: “Arrest of vicious and notorious kidnap-for-ransom gang led by a woman, Hawa Yunusa, from Masaka, Nasarawa State who leads so many kidnapping gangs; .

for several kidnappings of prominent Nigerians, including one Aisha Haruna (a business woman) referred to as Zainab by her family and friends, who was kidnapped and later killed and abandoned by this gang in the bush at Uke town, Nasarawa State.

The victim’s car, Honda Hennessey, was robbed after killing her. The suspect, Hawa Yinusa, further went to court and swore to an affidavit claiming that the victim was her sister before she died and was in the process of withdrawing from her bank account, about N1m. .

The two last suspects Nura Dahiru a.k.a Ula and Buhari Hamisu a.k.a wiseman were mobilized into the criminal gang by Hawa Yinusa. The suspect and her gangs have carried out several kidnappings between Abuja, Nasarawa and Plateau States. .

They have also been involved and confessed to other forms of kidnappings of innocent people, collecting their ATM cards and withdrawing their money before releasing them. .

Some of their victims have come forward to the Police investigator and identified them. They will be charged to court on completion of investigation.”

Omisore denies promise of senatorial ticket by APC

                         

The Social Democratic Party’s candidate in the September 22 and 27 Osun gubernatorial polls, Iyiola Omisore, has denied being promised a senatorial ticket by the All Progressive Congress after he drummed support for the party in the rerun election.

The former federal lawmaker representing Osun East came third in the poll while People’s Democratic Party’s Ademola Adeleke and Gboyega Oyetola of APC emerged second and the first respectively.

Mr Omisore was speculated to have been promised a senatorial ticket for Osun East senatorial district in the 2019 elections amongst other juicy offers including the retrieval of his international passport seized by the EFCC.

Meanwhile, in an interview with a day after the Osun election, the APC national chairman, Adams Oshiomole, denied placing a monetary offer before Mr. Omisore as a way of seeking his support.

When quizzed, Mr Oshiomole was quoted to have said; 

• “I don’t like those words ‘automatic tickets.’ I was careful even after the meeting we had with our lawmakers not to use those words.”

Also, former aviation minister and a PDP chieftain, Femi Fani-Kayode, mockingly stated on Saturday that Mr Omisore was jilted by the APC having denied him the Osun East Senatorial ticket.

• “So my former cousin Iyiola Omisore did not get the Senatorial ticket for Ife East from the APC after the dirty job he did? The only thing he got from them was his passport. Some just got served. It never pays to sell ur (your) soul to the devil. His infamy and treachery is legendary,” Mr. Fani-Kayode posted on Twitter.

PREMIUM TIMES gathered that the Director of Gboyega Oyetola’s Campaign Organisation in Osun East, Ajibola Famurewa, is the APC senatorial candidate for Osun East.

However, in a telephone interview with PREMIUM TIMES, Mr Omisore’s media aide, Jide Fakorede, said his principal was never promised a senatorial ticket.

“We were never promised any senatorial ticket. Fine, there was an agreement but no senatorial agreement,” he said.

Razak Atunwa Allegedly Skips NYSC, Forges Certificate

                       

The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Kwara State in the forthcoming general elections, Razak Atunwa, did not participate in Nigeria’s compulsory national youth service scheme, PREMIUM TIMES can authoritatively report today.

Instead, he procured a forged discharge certificate of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) which he submitted to the PDP to prove his eligibility for public office.

The fresh revelation about Mr Atunwa came about four months after PREMIUM TIMES exposed then finance minister, Kemi Adeosun, for engaging in similar conduct, and just a little over a month since the embattled official was forced to resign as a result of the scandal.

The Kwara politician’s conduct also came to light exactly a month after this medium reported that the Minister of Communications, Adebayo Shittu, also dodged the compulsory service, making him ineligible for public office and employment in Nigeria.

For one, Mr Atunwa’s ‘certificate’ purportedly obtained in 1996 carried the signature of Walter Oki (brigadier general at the time). But Mr Oki was only made NYSC director-general in 2002. In 1996, Soyemi Sofoluwe (brigadier general) was director-general of the corps and signed all discharge and exemption certificates during the period. He was succeeded by S.M. Dule (brigadier general), who served as director-general between 1996 and 2000.
