Former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose who was moved to Lagos for his arraignment yesterday, arrived the federal high court, Ikoyi, Lagos this morning as his trial begins.
Ayodele Fayose arrived the Lagos court around 8:30am, in a White Toyota Hiace bus with an Abuja number plate: BWR-630AT, in company of officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and officers of the Nigerian Police Force.
The former Governor of Ekiti State who is facing an 11-count charge,  is standing for trial with Mr. Abiodun Agbele (now facing another charge) and Spotless Limited. Ayodele Fayose and Agbele are accused of receiving the sum of N1, 219, 000, 000.00 to fund his 2014 gubernatorial campaign, which, according to the EFCC, Fayose ought to have known formed part of the proceeds of an unlawful act.
Fayose is also accused of receiving a cash payment of $5, 000, 000 from Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, the then Minister of State for Defence, on June 17, 2014 in Lagos which sum exceeded the amount authorized by law.
The EFCC also alleged that he retained a fixed deposit account No: 9013074033 with Zenith Bank Plc, and had the sum of N300, 000, 000.00 in it. It is alleged that Fayose and Spotless Limited between June 17, 2014 and August 4, 2014 in Lagos, took control of an aggregate sum of N317, 000, 000.00 by depositing same into the Zenith Bank Plc’s Account No: 1010170969 belonging to Spotless Investment Limited, a company controlled by him and members of his family.
