Scores of women who are members of the Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress from the three senatorial districts of Ogun State, on Wednesday, trooped out on the streets of Abeokuta in protest against the result of the National Working Committee of the party on the governorship candidate of the state, insisting that the consensus candidate of the Yewa Elders Council, Adekunle Akinlade, should be declared the winner.
The protesters, who also took their protest to the governor’s office at Oke Mosan and the Nigerian Union of Journalists secretariat in Abeokuta, gave the NWC and the National Chairman of the party, Adams Oshiomhole, up till Friday (tomorrow) to address their grievances, failure of which they threatened to go naked at the national headquarters of the party in Abuja.
Led by the Chairman of Ilugun Local Council Development Authority, Mofoluke Soremekun, and other women leaders in the three senatorial districts, the protesters insisted that they voted for Adekunle Akinlade and not Dapo Abiodun as announced by the national leadership of the APC.
The women drawn from across the 20 local government areas of the state converged on the Oke-Mosan governor’s office as early as 8 am from where they marched through IBB Boulevard to Kuto and stopped at the NUJ secretariat, Iwe Iroyin, thereby disrupting vehicular movements.
The women had earlier blocked the entrance to the Governor’s Office before moving to the Arcade Ground within the state secretariat where the party Chairman, Derin Adebiyi, addressed them.
The Deputy Governor, Yetunde Onanuga, while addressing the protesters, told them that she would follow them to occupy Abuja when it was time.
